WUO
The Weather Underground was a far-left militant organization first active in 1969, founded on the Ann Arbor campus of the University of Michigan. Originally known as the Weathermen, the group was organized as a faction of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) national leadership. Officially known as the Weather Underground Organization (WUO) beginning in 1970, the group's express political goal was to create a revolutionary party to overthrow the United States government, which WUO believed to be imperialist. The FBI described the WUO as a domestic terrorist group, with revolutionary positions characterized by Black Power and opposition to the Vietnam War. The WUO took part in domestic attacks such as the jailbreak of Timothy Leary in 1970. The " Days of Rage" was the WUO's first riot in October 1969 in Chicago, timed to coincide with the trial of the Chicago Seven. Women's Brigade Of Weather Underground
Initially called "The Proud Eagle Tribe,"Gilbert 33 the communiqué from the Women's Brigade of the Weather Underground pledged to "build a militant women's movement that commits itself to the destruction of Amerikan imperialism" and exploit "the man's chauvinism" as a "strategic weakness."Berger 143 Description The Women's Brigade was made up of seventy members, led by Bernardine Dohrn.Gonzalez-Perez 58 Their activities, although sensationalized for publicity purposes, were primarily confined to the levels of sympathizers and spies. The internal policies of WUO strictly defined as well as limited women's contributions within the group. The WUO required members to live in "weather collectives" in an effort to reject the bourgeois society. All female members were required to have sex with all male members, and women also had sexual relations with other women, as monogamous relationships were considered "counterrevolutionary."
