WUBU (106.3 FM, "Mix 106") is a radio station licensed to South Bend, Indiana, United States, and serving the South Bend market. The station is owned by Pathfinder Communications LLC. WUBU broadcasts an Urban Adult Contemporary format. WUBU caters to a true market niche – the African American market – in their 7-county coverage area of Northern Indiana and Lower Michigan. Counties include: Elkhart, LaPorte, Marshall, St. Joseph and Starke counties in Indiana, and Berrien and Cass counties in Lower Michigan. WZOX
WZOX (96.5 FM) is a radio station in Portage, Michigan. The station currently broadcasts a modern adult contemporary format branded as "Hits 96.5". History Early history 96.5 FM signed on in December 1988 as WLWJ owned by Larry Langford, Jr. Langford owned stations in Chicago and South Bend such as WVON and WLLJ-AM 910 (now WGTO). WLWJ was mixed of a Rhythm leaning oldies rock station. 96.5 UBU In February 1991, the calls were changed to WUBU, as "96.5 UBU" with an urban adult contemporary format. WUBU, owned by Larry Langford, Jr. (who owned a similarly formatted station in Cassopolis, WLLJ-AM 910, now classic hits WGTO and still owned by Langford) was Kalamazoo's first FM R&B station and was highly supported. WGTO
WGTO (branded as "97.1 & 910 MeTV FM") is a radio station broadcasting a soft oldies format. It is licensed to Cassopolis, Michigan broadcasting on AM 910 kHz and is under ownership of Langford Broadcasting. Much of the programming comes from MeTVfm. This station first began broadcasting in 1986 under the WLLJ call sign and originally featured an urban contemporary format. WGTO was designed and built by longtime Chicago radio personality Larry Langford in 1987 as WLLJ. WGTO is the last station to be built under the AM daytime rules of the Federal Communications Commission. After the Construction Permit for this station was authorized in 1986 no further applications were accepted for stations wanting to operate Daytime Only. It draws an adult audience between the ages of 25-49 with an Urban Adult Contemporary format since its inception by Satellite Music Network in 1972. In January 2010, Citadel Broadcasting rebranded this network as MyFavStation, but a month later, it was reverted to its original legacy branding. That same month, veteran R&B radio announcer, Ron "The Nighttime Dog" Chavis, was brought in to host the seven night per week evening slot vacated by R&B crooner Brian McKnight. Urban Adult Contemporary
Urban adult contemporary, often abbreviated as urban AC or UAC, (also known as adult R&B,) is the name for a format of radio music, similar to an urban contemporary format. Radio stations using this format usually would not have hip hop music on their playlists, and generally include some mix of contemporary R&B and traditional R&B (while urban oldies stations emphasize only the latter). Urban adult contemporary playlists generally consist of many different genres that originated amongst Black Americans including R&B, soul, funk, disco, jazz, pop, hip-hop, electro, quiet storm, gospel, new jack swing, and hip-hop soul. Portage is a city in Kalamazoo County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 46,292 in the 2010 census.
