WTUX (101.1 FM) is an American mainstream rock radio station licensed to Gouldsboro, Maine, United States. The station is owned by Blueberry Broadcasting, LLC and simulcasts co-owned WTOS-FM. History This station received its original construction permit from the Federal Communications Commission on May 25, 2006. The new station was assigned the WLEK call sign by the FCC on April 30, 2009. In April 2008, permit holder Louis Vitali filed an application with the FCC to transfer the permit to a company he controlled, Blueberry Broadcasting, LLC. The transfer was approved by the FCC on April 30, 2008, and the transaction was consummated on June 4, 2008. On January 7, 2009, WLEK applied to change its community of license to Gouldsboro, Maine. , the FCC has accepted this application for filing but has taken no further action on the request. WTOS-FM
WTOS-FM (105.1 MHz), known as "The Mountain of Pure Rock", is a commercial mainstream rock radio station licensed to Skowhegan, Maine whose studios are located in Augusta. History WTOS-FM originated as a free-form rock music station in 1973 started by John Pineau on 107.1 MHz, with a studio based in Skowhegan, Maine. The tower was moved to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain with an upgrade to 57,000 watts effective radiated power on the current frequency of 105.1 MHz. WTOS-FM remained locally owned by Mountain Wireless, and gained a reputation as one of the region's more daring stations throughout the 1980s, due to its penchant for playing harder or more obscure rock bands that did not normally appear on commercial radio stations. WKSQ (94.5 MHz "Kiss-FM") is a commercial FM radio station licensed to Ellsworth, Maine, and serving the Bangor metropolitan area. The station broadcasts an adult contemporary radio format, switching to Christmas music for part of November and December. It is owned by Blueberry Broadcasting. In broadcasting and radio communications, a call sign (also known as a call name or call letters—and historically as a call signal—or abbreviated as a call) is a unique identifier for a transmitter station. A call sign can be formally assigned by a government agency, informally adopted by individuals or organizations, or even cryptographically encoded to disguise a station's identity. The use of call signs as unique identifiers dates to the landline railroad telegraph system. Because there was only one telegraph line linking all railroad stations, there needed to be a way to address each one when sending a telegram. In order to save time, two-letter identifiers were adopted for this purpose. The year 2006 saw a number of significant events in radio broadcasting.
