WTOS (AM)
WTOS (910 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Bangor, Maine, United States. The station is owned by Blueberry Broadcasting. WTOS broadcasts a mainstream rock format, simulcast with WTOS-FM (105.1 FM) in Skowhegan and WTUX (101.1 FM) in Gouldsboro. WTOS's studios and offices are on Target Industrial Circle in Bangor. The transmitter is off Wilson Street in Brewer. The station broadcasts at 5,000 watts during the day. To protect other radio stations on AM 910 at night, it reduces power to 210 watts. The station uses a non-directional antenna at all times. History Early years The station first signed on as WABI in November 1924. At first, it broadcast at 1250 kilocycles. WTOS-FM
WTOS-FM (105.1 MHz), known as "The Mountain of Pure Rock", is a commercial mainstream rock radio station licensed to Skowhegan, Maine whose studios are located in Augusta. History WTOS-FM originated as a free-form rock music station in 1973 started by John Pineau on 107.1 MHz, with a studio based in Skowhegan, Maine. The tower was moved to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain with an upgrade to 57,000 watts effective radiated power on the current frequency of 105.1 MHz. WTOS-FM remained locally owned by Mountain Wireless, and gained a reputation as one of the region's more daring stations throughout the 1980s, due to its penchant for playing harder or more obscure rock bands that did not normally appear on commercial radio stations. The Federal Radio Commission (FRC) was a government agency that regulated United States radio communication from its creation in 1927 until 1934, when it was succeeded by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Bangor Public Library
The Bangor Public Library is the public library of Bangor, Maine. It shares the URSUS online cataloging system with the University of Maine and other Maine libraries. The library's roots date to 1830, when the Bangor Mechanic Association assembled a private collection of books. In 1873, it absorbed several other associations' libraries and became the Bangor Mechanic Association Public Library. In 1883, former U.S. Congressman and lumber baron Samuel F. Hersey left the City of Bangor a $100,000 bequest, which the city used to form a municipally owned public library. The Mechanic Association's 20,000 books formed the core collection. Brewer is a city in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. It is part of the Bangor, Maine Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is named after its first settler, Colonel John Brewer. The population was 9,672 at the 2020 census. Brewer is the sister city of Bangor.
