WTHK (100.7 FM; "The Peak") is a radio station broadcasting a classic rock format. It is licensed to Wilmington, Vermont. The station is currently owned by Jeffrey Shapiro's Great Eastern Radio, and currently simulcasts sister station WKKN (101.9 FM). History WTHK began its radio life as WVAY. The station was part of the 'wave' of upscale smooth jazz formatted stations that were very trendy in the mid to late 1980s. The station was owned and operated by Rothschild Broadcasting. Founding Program Director Roger Coryell left the station in 1990 for a position as morning host on San Francisco "Smooth Jazz" outlet KKSF. Nassau Broadcasting Partners LP was a company based in Princeton, New Jersey that owned radio stations in New England and the Mid-Atlantic United States. Nassau's stations, which included both AM and FM frequencies, were located in Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The company was owned and headed by Louis F. Mercatanti. Nassau was predominantly an operator of radio stations in medium and small markets. Nassau formerly owned radio station WCRB in Waltham, a Boston suburb, and located in the Boston market, the 11th largest radio market in the US, according to BIA Financial Network. Brandon is a town in Rutland County, Vermont, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 4,129. History On October 20, 1761, the town of Neshobe was chartered to Capt. Josiah Powers. In October 1784, the name of the town was changed to Brandon by an act of the legislature. Brandon is a study in early American architecture and Vermont history. When the first settlers came to the area in the mid-1770s, they established the village of Neshobe. The area was rich in natural resources with excellent farmland along the rivers and abundant supplies of timber and minerals. The town flourished during the 1800s with several industries relying on the key resources of waterpower, iron ore and marble. WEXP (101.5 MHz) is a commercial radio station licensed to Brandon, Vermont. WEXP broadcasts an Americana music format featuring nearly all types of rock, folk, bluegrass, blues and jazz with an effective radiated power of 350 watts with a directional antenna located atop "Grandpa's Knob" near Castleton, Vermont. The station is owned by Saga Communications and licensed to Saga Communications of New England, LLC. It airs an adult album alternative music format. History On July 11, 1977, Ed Skutnik filed an application on behalf of his Company, Green Valley Broadcasting Co., Ltd. to build a new FM station in Greenfield, Massachusetts.
