WJPX (channel 24) is a Spanish-language Independent television station licensed to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The station brands itself as América TeVé Puerto Rico. WIRS, virtual channel 42 (UHF digital channel 17), is a semi-satellite of WJPX and a Sonlife-affiliated television station licensed to Yauco, Puerto Rico. Mega TV is an American free-to-air television network based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, owned by Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS). The network's flagship is WSBS-TV, a television station licensed to Key West, Florida, with studios also in Miami. History Mega TV was launched on March 1, 2006. Its original slate of programming includes productions aimed to young Hispanic viewers. Mega TV seems to be following the same pattern traced by larger rivals such as the Hispanic Telemundo, Univision and Azteca nearly 25 years ago – creating its own television personalities. In early 2007, the station cut 55 employees to save production costs. WSJU-TV, virtual and UHF digital channel 31, was a television station licensed to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The station was owned by Aerco Broadcasting Corporation. WSJU-TV's studios were located at the IBC-AERCO building at 1554 Bori Street, Urb. Antonsanti in Rio Piedras. Its transmitter was located at Cerro la Marquesa in Aguas Buenas. During most of the 2000s, the station's programming consisted mostly of music videos until it became an affiliate of Spanish Broadcasting System's Mega TV on August 25, 2008. WMEG (106.9 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a Top 40/CHR format. Licensed to Guayama, Puerto Rico, it serves the greater San Juan area. The station is currently owned by WMEG Licensing, Inc. Until 2004, La Mega 106.9 FM had an American Alternative Top 40 format. Music was 100% in English from Pop, Rock, Hip-Hop to Techno. In 2004 the station began to air Reggaeton music along with the original format. In the latter part of 2006 and early 2007, the station began to air Latin Top 40 Rock along with Reggaeton music and airing more pop and hip-hop than rock.
