Urban Adult Contemporary
Urban adult contemporary, often abbreviated as urban AC or UAC, (also known as adult R&B,) is the name for a format of radio music, similar to an urban contemporary format. Radio stations using this format usually would not have hip hop music on their playlists, and generally include some mix of contemporary R&B and traditional R&B (while urban oldies stations emphasize only the latter). Urban adult contemporary playlists generally consist of many different genres that originated amongst Black Americans including R&B, soul, funk, disco, jazz, pop, hip-hop, electro, quiet storm, gospel, new jack swing, and hip-hop soul. WYPZ (900 kHz) is an AM radio station broadcasting an urban gospel format. Licensed to Macon, Georgia, US, the station serves the Macon area. The station went on the air as WCRY on November 25, 1957. It was owned by William H. Loudermilk and initially had a format aimed at Black listeners. The call sign was changed to WDDO in 1977, when WCRY was forced to stop simulcasting with the FM. It then exchanged frequencies and licenses with country music station WBML (1240 AM) in 1978, resulting in WBML being heard on 900 and WDDO's format and call sign moving to 1240. Cochran, Georgia
Cochran is a city in Bleckley County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 5,026. The city is the county seat of Bleckley County. Cochran is named for Judge Arthur E. Cochran and was incorporated on March 19, 1869. Judge Cochran was largely instrumental in developing this section of Georgia through his work as president of the Macon and Brunswick Railroad, now the Southern Railway (a component of Norfolk Southern Railway).
