WRVO Public Media is a non-profit public radio network in Oswego, New York licensed to the State University of New York at Oswego, operating from studios in the Penfield Library on the SUNY Oswego campus. Its multi-station network serves more than 20 counties in central and northern New York from flagship WRVO in Oswego, repeaters WRVD in Syracuse, WRVH in Clayton, WRVN in Utica, and WRVJ in Watertown. Low-power translators serve Geneva, Hamilton, Ithaca, Norwich and Watertown. Watertown (city), New York
Watertown is a city in, and the county seat of, Jefferson County, New York, United States. It is approximately south of the Thousand Islands, along the Black River about east of where it flows into Lake Ontario. The city is bordered by the town of Watertown to the south, east, and west, and is served by the Watertown International Airport and the ''Watertown Daily Times'' newspaper. In the middle of Watertown lies the Public Square Historic District, which was built in 1805 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1984. Watertown is located southwest of the U.S. Army base at Fort Drum; it is the service and shopping destination for personnel there and their families. Cortland is a city and the county seat of Cortland County, New York. Known as the Crown City, Cortland is in New York's Southern Tier region. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 17,556. The city of Cortland, near the county's western border, is surrounded by the town of Cortlandville. History The city is within the former Central New York Military Tract. The station is owned and licensed by the State University of New York at Cortland in Cortland, New York, United States. History WSUC-FM went on the air officially on November 29, 1976. Prior to becoming WSUC-FM, the university radio station broadcast in AM with the call sign WCSU. The station had expected to retain the WCSU call sign but the FCC's FM license application required 5 potential call sign choices. Hamilton is a town in Madison County, New York, United States. The population was 6,690 at the 2010 census. The town is named after American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. WRCU-FM (90.1 FM) is Colgate University's student-run radio station. It is located in Hamilton, New York, and broadcasts a wide variety of music to the central New York region. Format Like many college radio stations, WRCU's main format is freeform, specializing in independent rock music, jazz, hip-hop, and world music. However, the station also has a large variety of specialty show formats, covering genres from metal to Celtic music. WRCU also has a handful of talk shows, covering sports and politics. Clayton is a town in Jefferson County, New York, United States. The population was 5,153 at the 2010 census. The town is named after John M. Clayton, a federal political leader from Delaware. The town contains a village also named Clayton. Both are northwest of Watertown.
