WRRX (106.1 FM) is an urban adult contemporary music formatted radio station in the Pensacola, Florida, market owned by Cumulus Media. Its studios and transmitter are separately located in Pensacola. WRRX signed on in 2000 as WZRO with an active rock format as "Rock 106, Pensacola's Real Rock." Shortly thereafter, WZRO changed calls to WRRX. In 2004, WRRX changed format to Urban AC. WJTQ
WJTQ (100.7 FM) is an American commercial radio station serving the Pensacola, Florida, and Mobile, Alabama markets. The station, established in 1965, is owned by Cumulus Media and its broadcast license is held by Cumulus Licensing, LLC. Its studios are in Pensacola and its transmitter is near Robertsdale, Alabama. History WJTQ was an automated beautiful music station when it debuted as WCOA-FM. In the mid-1970s the format was switched to Top 40 with live and local disc jockeys and moniker "Q100," with the call sign WJLQ. WJLQ is Pensacola's affiliate with Dan Ingram's ''Top 40 Satellite Survey''. In the early 1990s, the branding was changed by Barry Richards to "Super Q 100.7" with an emphasis on rhythmic and dance music. As a hit music station, WJLQ competed at different times with WABB-FM and WKRG-FM, which were both Mobile stations. WCOA (1370 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Pensacola, Florida, serving the Emerald Coast. It is owned by Cumulus Media and broadcasts a Talk radio format. The radio studios and offices are on North W Street off Pensacola Boulevard (U.S. Route 29). By day, WCOA is powered at 5,000 watts non-directional. At night, to protect other stations on 1370 AM, it reduces power to 4,400 watts and uses a directional antenna with a three-tower array The transmitter is on Hollywood Avenue near Massachusetts Avenue in Brent, Florida. Gulf Breeze is a city in Santa Rosa County, Florida. It is a suburb of Pensacola, and is in the Pensacola Metropolitan Area. The population estimate was 6,900 in 2020. Gulf Breeze is located just north of Pensacola Beach, and south of Pensacola. Gulf Breeze is on the Fairpoint Peninsula, and is bordered by Navarre to the east. Urban adult contemporary, often abbreviated as urban AC or UAC, (also known as adult R&B,) is the name for a format of radio music, similar to an urban contemporary format. Radio stations using this format usually would not have hip hop music on their playlists, and generally include some mix of contemporary R&B and traditional R&B (while urban oldies stations emphasize only the latter). Urban adult contemporary playlists generally consist of many different genres that originated amongst Black Americans including R&B, soul, funk, disco, jazz, pop, hip-hop, electro, quiet storm, gospel, new jack swing, and hip-hop soul.
