History The station first went on the air in 1962 as WAPC-FM. In 1967 the call letters were changed to WHRF-FM, and in 1972 to the current WRCN-FM. In 1978, WRCN changed from a top 40 format to what was then known as album-oriented rock (now known as classic rock). Long Island MacArthur Airport (formerly known as Islip Airport) is a public airport in Ronkonkoma, New York, on Long Island. The Town of Islip owns and operates the airport, which serves about two million airline passengers a year, as well as general aviation. Long Island MacArthur Airport (LIMA) covers 1,311 acres (531 ha) and has three runways and two helipads. MacArthur Airport serves Nassau and Suffolk counties as an alternative to the JFK and LaGuardia airports – both in Queens in New York City. Shuttle buses connect the airport to the Ronkonkoma Railroad Station. Riverhead is a census-designated place (CDP) roughly corresponding to the hamlet by the same name located in the town of Riverhead in Suffolk County, New York on Long Island. The CDP's population was 13,299 at the 2010 census. Situated at the mouth of the Peconic River, which empties into Peconic Bay where the North and South Forks of Long Island split, the town of Riverhead—of which the CDP is a part—is the official county seat of Suffolk County. Chaz & AJ in the Morning is a morning radio talk show program on 99.1 WPLR, a rock radio station broadcasting from Milford, Connecticut weekdays from 5:30–10 am. Though the show is mostly comedy based, it includes certain segments of more serious (and more important) things, including interviews with politicians and authors. Chaz & AJ recently won the 2016 NAB Marconi Award for Medium Market Personality of the year, a highly distinguished honor in the radio community. The show has won the New Haven Advocate award for best local radio show every single year for the past ten years. WBON (98.5 FM, "La Nueva Fiesta") is a Spanish-language tropical music formatted radio station, licensed to Westhampton, New York and serving eastern Long Island. The station is owned by JVC Media LLC with studios located in Ronkonkoma, New York and transmitter located in Manorville, New York. History 98.5 FM went on the air September 15, 1993 as WMRW, simulcasting the modern rock of WDRE (92.7 FM). This would continue throughout the 1990s, with the call sign of 98.5 changing to WLIR-FM, WLRI, and finally WDRE.
