History As W59AT and W44AI Originally, this station began operations on channel 59 as W59AT, licensed to Plainview, becoming the third TV station in Long Island and the second independent station since WSNL (channel 67) first went on the air 7 years earlier. In the early years the station was the first in broadcasting an all-music video format from Satellite Program Network as secondary from 5 a.m. to 2 a.m. In addition to music videos the station also aired instructional programming from local colleges and ethnic and community programming. The station is owned by New York Spectrum Holding Company. History As W54AY and WNXY-LP WNXY-LP first signed on in 1988 over channel 54 as W54AY, which was licensed in the Brownsville area of Brooklyn, New York. One program that aired in the 1980s was '' Rapid T. Rabbit and Friends'', which also aired on W44AI (now WNYX-LD) for a short time before moving to cable months later. In 1998, it changed its call letters to WNXY-LP and moved to channel 27. Like its sister station WNYX-LD, this station broadcast community access-type programming. In addition to general entertainment programming WXNY-LD is currently available on Local BTV online and the app. History As W63AS and W38AM WXNY originally began on channel 63 as W63AS, and for a while it was an out of market translator of WVIA-TV for local schools. Hicksville, New York
Hicksville is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) within the Town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York. The population of the CDP was 41,547 at the 2010 census. History Valentine Hicks, son-in-law of abolitionist and Quaker preacher Elias Hicks, and eventual president of the Long Island Rail Road, bought land in the village in 1834 and turned it into a station stop on the LIRR in 1837. The station became a depot for produce, particularly cucumbers for a Heinz Company plant. After a blight destroyed the cucumber crops, the farmers grew potatoes. Plainview is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) located near the North Shore of Long Island in the town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population of the CDP was 27,100. The Plainview post office has the ZIP code 11803. Plainview and its neighboring hamlet, Old Bethpage, share a school system, library, fire department, and water district. Law enforcement for the communities is provided by the Nassau County Police Department's Second Precinct. Very high frequency (VHF) is the ITU designation for the range of radio frequency electromagnetic waves ( radio waves) from 30 to 300 megahertz (MHz), with corresponding wavelengths of ten meters to one meter.
