WNCC (AM)
WNCC was a commercial AM radio station, licensed to the Borough of Northern Cambria, Pennsylvania. WNCC operated on a federally assigned frequency of 950 kHz with a maximum power output of 500 Watts. History WNCC first signed on the air back in 1950, licensed to the coal-mining community of Barnesboro (which would later merge with Spangler to form Northern Cambria) and like many small stations of its day, served the local area with a combination of local news, sports, and music. The station first operated from the American Legion post in Barnesboro and under the ownership of North Cambria Broadcasters, Inc. William Thomas served as the station's first general manager. The station first changed hands in January 1960 when it was sold to WNCC Inc., a company headed by J. Howard Bair. Studios were then moved to 803 Maple Avenue. Barnesboro, Pennsylvania
Barnesboro, Pennsylvania was a borough (Pennsylvania), borough located in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, United States. The Borough of Barnesboro evolved from a tract of land which was rich in timber and coal resources. The tract of land, located in Susquehanna Township, was originally granted to Edward C. Fisher in 1835 when it was a dense forest. Two early settlers David Ralston and Peter Garman cleared the land and sold the lumber. Three-fourths of the timber was carried on the West Branch Susquehanna River, West Branch of the Susquehanna River. Logging was a major industry for many years. Later, Daniel Stannard bought Peter Garman's 420 acres for farming. Years later the development of railroad facilities opened the area to the coal mining industry. WCCS (1160 AM) is a commercially licensed American radio station, in Homer City, Pennsylvania, about 50 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, and 25 miles northwest of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. WCCS broadcasts with a maximum daytime power output of 10,000 watts, and 1,000 watts night. The station operates with a four-tower directional antenna pattern, and programs a daily format of news/talk, sports talk, and local news/sports reports. History Beginnings: A new AM in an FM world WCCS was the brainchild of founders Mark Harley and Ray Goss, both of whom had served as general managers at radio stations in the area that were owned by Progressive Publishing, which also published the Clearfield Progress newspaper. WDAD (1450 AM) is a radio station in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. It is owned and operated by Renda Broadcasting. History WDAD was the first radio station in Indiana County, and was one of the first radio stations in the nation granted licenses after World War II had ended. The station has kept its original call letters throughout its history of more than half a century. The WDAD call letters were formerly used by a Nashville radio station which first signed on the air in 1925 and broadcast until sometime in 1927.
