WMCJ (1460 AM broadcasting, AM) is a radio station city of license, licensed to serve Cullman, Alabama, United States. The station is owned by Walton E. Williams III but a sale to Jimmy Dale Media was approved by the FCC in October 2008 and is, as of January 30, 2009, pending consummation. WMCJ broadcasts a sports radio, sports format, simulcasting WFMH (AM), WFMH 1340 AM Cullman. History This station began broadcast operations as WFMH, transmitting with 1,000 watts of daytime-only power on an assigned frequency of 1300 kHz, on March 25, 1950. The station was licensed to The Voice of Cullman and was owned in part and operated by B.C. Eddins. In 1955, the station moved to the current 1460 kHz to accommodate a power increase to 5,000 watts, still restricted to daytime operations. In 1959, the station expanded to 24-hour broadcasting with the addition of a 500 watt nighttime signal. WFMH (AM)
WFMH (1340 AM) is a radio station licensed to serve Cullman, Alabama, United States. The station is owned by Jimmy Dale Media. It airs a sports format. The station was assigned the WFMH call letters by the Federal Communications Commission on September 20, 2002. Ownership The station first signed on the air as WKUL on October 1, 1946, under the ownership of the Cullman Broadcasting Company. During the 1980s the station was owned and operated by Piney Hills Broadcasting. In the mid-1990s the station was acquired by Good Earth Broadcasting which then added a WXXR-FM FM simulcast on 95.5 FM in 1996. In 1998 101.1 FM in Cullman (WFMH-FM) was leased to a group in Birmingham who wanted to broadcast contemporary Christian music (Reality 101) so the 101.1 FM. Cullman is the largest city and county seat of Cullman County, Alabama, United States. It is located along Interstate 65, about north of Birmingham and about south of Huntsville. AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions.
