WLQH
WLQH (940 AM broadcasting, AM) is a radio station broadcasting a classic country format, licensed to Chiefland, Florida. WLQH debuted June 6, 1968, as a 500-watt, daytime-only facility, originally owned by White Construction Company of Chiefland and broadcasting country music during the morning and early afternoon hours and Top 40 during afternoon drive time. Luther White was the station's president, C. Wesley Ward served as general manager and news director, and Ruth M. Ward was the station's program director, while Billy Mayo was the Top 40 announcer and program director. The station is currently owned by Suncoast Broadcasting. In 2014 WLQH entered into a simulcast with WZCC AM 1240 in Cross City, Florida, Cross City and its FM translator W227AV 93.3 MHz in Newberry, Florida, Newberry, which serves an area between Chiefland and Fanning Springs, Florida, Fanning Springs. WZCC is a commercial classic country radio station in Cross City, Florida, broadcasting to the Tri-County area of Dixie, Levy, and Gilchrist counties on 1240 AM. In 2007 the station was sold to WRGO RADIO, LLC. In February 2010 the station was sold to Suncoast Radio, Inc. The station was off the air for most of 2009. WZCC resumed broadcasting on March 5, 2010. In addition to classic country music WZCC airs NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races from the Motor Racing Network, and local high school football. On December 1, 2010, WZCC began simulcasting with WLQH AM 940 in Chiefland. Chiefland, Florida
Chiefland is a city in Levy County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,316 at the 2020 census. Chiefland calls itself the "Gem of the Suwannee Valley" and was incorporated in 1929. History A village of the Timucua people was once located south of the present city and at Manatee Springs. The area's economy is traditionally based on agriculture, primarily farming (peanuts, watermelons, hay); ranching (cattle, hogs); dairy (milk); timber ( pulpwood, lumber, turpentine) and aquaculture (fishing, oystering, crabbing). XEQ-AM (940 kHz) is a commercial class A clear channel AM radio station in Mexico City. The concession is held by Cadena Radiodifusora Mexicana, S.A. de C.V. and is operated by Radiópolis. XEQ-AM broadcasts from a transmitter located at Los Reyes Acaquilpan, on Boulevard Generalísimo Morelos, east of Mexico City. It currently simulcasts XEQ-FM 92.9. It was owned by Emilio Azcárraga Vidaurreta doing business as Radio Panamericana, S.A., and was a network affiliate of CBS Radio as part of the "Chain of the Americas." Newberry is a city located in the southwest corner of Alachua County, Florida, United States. The population was 7,342 as of the 2020 Census. Much of the city borders neighboring Gilchrist County, to the west. The current Mayor is Jordan Marlowe.
