WLIM
WLIM (1440 AM, ''The Breeze'') is a radio station licensed to Medford, New York, broadcasting a soft adult contemporary music format. History Originally licensed to Babylon, New York, the 1440 frequency signed on the air on Sunday January 5, 1958 as WBAB with 500 watts daytime only. Operated by Babylon-Bay Shore Broadcasting Company, the station initially played Jazz and featured a large news department as well as extensive community affairs programming. WBAB (and its FM signal on 102.3) switched to a Pop Music format before becoming a Progressive Rock station by the late 1960s. On October 14, 1975, the station's call letters were changed to WNYG (New York Gospel) after adopting a Gospel music format. The companion FM station, which continued to play rock, was sold shortly after. In the 1980s, WNYG adopted an MOR (Middle of the Road) format called "14 Gold". WBAB (102.3 FM) is a classic rock radio station licensed to Babylon, New York and owned by Cox Radio. The station is also simulcast on WHFM (95.3 FM) licensed to Southampton, New York and serving eastern Long Island. History WBAB first went on the air August 27, 1958 as WBAB-FM. Medford, New York
Medford is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Brookhaven in Suffolk County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. The population was 24,142 at the 2010 census. History The Long Island Rail Road established the Medford station in 1843 in a flat wilderness in the Long Island Central Pine Barrens. The station connected to the Patchogue Stage Road between Patchogue and Port Jefferson, and a post office was established. In 1907 the LIRR established the Medford Prosperity Farm (officially called Experimental Station #2) on to show that crops could be raised in the Pine Barrens. Theodore Roosevelt visited the station in August 1910. As the car drove across a trail between Medford and Wading River, it got stuck in the mud and Roosevelt was said to take a "flying leap" to get out. WADO (1280 AM) is a commercial radio station licensed to New York City. It is owned and operated by Uforia Audio Network, a subsidiary of Univision. It broadcasts a Spanish-language sports radio format. By day, WADO is powered at 50,000 watts, the maximum permitted for American AM stations. But to protect other stations on 1280 AM from interference, at night it reduces power to 7,200 watts. It uses a directional antenna with a four-tower array. WGLI (1290 AM) was a radio station licensed to Babylon, New York. History Founded in 1958 by William Reuman the founder and owner of WWRL in New York City, the station went on the air on September 1, 1958, along with WGLI-FM. This made WGLI the first Long Island station to sign on both an AM & FM station on the same day. In March 1960, Friendly Frost Inc. (a Long Island-based appliance store chain) acquired WGLI Inc. from Mr. Reuman and his partners. Originally broadcasting with 1,000 watts, the station increased power to 5,000 watts in 1966 after being sold to new owner Martin F. Beck. Beck, along with his brother-in-law George H. Ross created Beck-Ross Communications in order to purchase WGLI, the company eventually grew to own 10 stations, including WBLI in Patchogue, New York.
