WKXS-FM (94.5 MHz) is a radio station broadcasting a classic rock format and airing The Bob & Tom Show in the morning. WWQQ-FM (101.3 MHz) is a country music formatted radio station located in Wilmington, North Carolina. It advertises itself as "Cape Fear's Country Leader". WMNX (97.3 FM) is an mainstream urban formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Wilmington, North Carolina and serving the Wilmington Metro area. History 97.3 started in 1970 as WHSL-FM, sister station to AM 1490 WHSL. In the early 1980s, album-oriented rock WHSL was launched. In the late 1980s, WHSL shifted to soft adult contemporary music during the day and smooth jazz in the evening, with calls WMFD-FM and later WMNX. In 1992, it switched to mainstream urban and began using the branding "Coast 97.3". In 1999, Cape Fear Broadcasting announced the sale of its six stations to Cumulus Broadcasting. Urban adult contemporary, often abbreviated as urban AC or UAC, (also known as adult R&B,) is the name for a format of radio music, similar to an urban contemporary format. Radio stations using this format usually would not have hip hop music on their playlists, and generally include some mix of contemporary R&B and traditional R&B (while urban oldies stations emphasize only the latter). Urban contemporary music, also known as urban music, hip hop, urban pop, or just simply urban, is a music radio format. The term was coined by New York radio DJ Frankie Crocker in the early to mid-1970s as a synonym for Black music. WILD (AM)
WILD (1090 AM) is a radio station licensed to Boston, Massachusetts. The station airs a Christian format, and is owned by Blount Communications, through licensee Blount Masscom, Inc. The station operates during daytime hours only. Its transmitter is located in Medford. History WILD first went on the air in 1946 as WBMS, with a classical music format. Eventually, the station went to a "popular music" format, briefly adopted the call letters WHEE, then went back to being WBMS.
