WKEY-FM (93.7 Hertz, MHz) is a radio station located in Key West, Florida, United States. It is owned by Radio One Key West, LLC, and broadcasts a yacht rock format known as Key 93. History The station went on the air as WKRY on 93.5 MHz on November 17, 1985; by 1989, it was an easy listening station with 20 hours of jazz music and 8 hours of classical music a week. On November 23, 1999, the station changed its call sign to the current WKEY-FM. On June 8, 2011, WKEY-FM changed formats to oldies, branded as "True Oldies". The station was moved to 93.7 MHz in 2013 as a contingency of relocating WSFS (FM), 104.3 MHz from West Palm Beach south toward the Miami market. In 2016, Jonathan Smith's Choice Radio Keys Corporation, who acquired it in 2016. By that time, it was operating as part of a regional simulcast with WGMX and WKEZ-FM, known as "The Mix". WGMX (94.3 FM broadcasting, FM) is a radio station licensed to Marathon, Florida, United States. History The station originally went on the air in 1976 as WMUM, Stereo Island, and was owned by John and June Thacker. It was a Class A FM station on 94.3 Mhz and took the market by storm with its Easy Listening music format and limited commercial breaks, along with a fulltime local news department. The Thackers later bought local AM station, WFFG, and moved the FM operation to Boot Key, sharing studio and transmitter facilities. The Thackers sold WMUM to Joe Nascone, who was from Pennsylvania and the call letters were changed to WGMX. WFFG (1300 AM) is an American radio station licensed to operate in Marathon, Florida, United States, in the Florida Keys, broadcasting a news/talk format. History First licensed in 1960, the station was a 500-watt, four-tower directional station built on an uninhabited island in the Florida Keys. Telephone and electrical services were run to the island, exclusively for the station. A drawbridge was built for convenient transportation. The original owners were Kentucky broadcasters, Bill Betts and Gilmore Nunn, who vacationed in Marathon. In the early 1960s they sold the station to Kentucky financier Garvis Kincaid where it became part of the Bluegrass Broadcasting chain, headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky. Bluegrass sold the station to a former Michigan legislator and local resident, Emil Lockwood.
