WKCN (99.3 FM broadcasting, FM), known as "Kissin 99.3", is a radio station licensed to Fort Benning South/Columbus, and serving the greater Columbus, Georgia, area. Its studios are co-located with four other sister stations on Wynnton Road in Columbus east of downtown, and its transmitter is located near Fort Mitchell, Alabama. Programming Kissin 99.3 began broadcasting country music in 1992, and remains a country music radio station today. Current on-air personalities include Bear O'Brian (Wade Collier), Morgan in the Midday, Brian Thomas in the Afternoon, and Dave Arwood at Night, Monday through Friday. WKCN-FM also carries American Country Countdown with Kix Brooks on Sunday nights. WRCG (1420 AM broadcasting, AM) is an urban contemporary gospel-formatted radio station in Columbus, Georgia. Studios are co-located with four sister stations on Wynnton Road in Columbus east of downtown, and the transmitter is located in Phenix City, Alabama. WRCG is an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves radio network. History WRCG was first authorized, as WRBL, on March 27, 1928 to R. E. Martin in Columbus. On May 22, 1928 it was assigned to transmit on 1170 kHz, and on November 11, 1928 was reassigned to 1200 kHz, as part of a major reallocation made under the provisions of the Federal Radio Commission's General Order 40. Although the call letters were randomly assigned by the government from an alphabetic list of available call signs, over the years WRBL was said to stand for "Wireless Radio's Bill Lewis", a broadcast engineer pioneer who put the station on the air, and "Wee-Rebel Radio". Classic Hip Hop
Classic hip hop is a music radio format focusing primarily on hip hop music from the 1980s, 1990s, and the early to mid-2000s. Although stations with such a format date back as far as 2004, the format was first popularized in October 2014, after Radio One dropped a poorly performing news radio format from its Houston station KROI in favor of classic hip-hop. Fort Mitchell is an unincorporated community in Russell County, Alabama, United States. The settlement developed around a garrisoned fort intended to provide defense for the area during the Creek War (1813–14).
