WJIB
WJIB (740 AM) is a radio station based in Cambridge, Massachusetts and serving the Boston DMA. The playlist draws from 5,400 records, concentrating on adult standards from the 1930s through the 1960s, and softer pop music from the 1950s and 1960s. It is owned by Bob Bittner Broadcasting, along with sister station WJTO in Bath, Maine. WJIB runs no commercial advertisements (instead relying on listener donations, in the same vein as a non-commercial station), and broadcast in AM stereo until the summer of 2012. On August 4, 2017, the station began simulcasting on an FM translator at 101.3 MHz, W267CE. WJIB is an indirect successor to a previous Boston FM station at 96.9 MHz with the same call sign (now WBQT, owned by Beasley Broadcast Group) which in turn descended from WXHR, one of the first FM stations in the Boston area. WBQT (96.9 MHz "Hot 96.9") is a commercial FM radio station in Boston, Massachusetts. It is owned by the Beasley Broadcast Group and airs an urban-leaning rhythmic hot AC radio format. WBQT's studios and offices are located in Waltham. Its transmitter is atop the Prudential Tower in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood. WJTO
WJTO (730 AM) is an adult standards and oldies station licensed to Bath, Maine. WJTO is owned by Blue Jey Broadcasting Co. (Bob Bittner: 100% stockholder) and is a sister station to similarly owned WJIB in Cambridge, Massachusetts. History WJTO began broadcasting in September 1957 as WMMS ("Where Most of Maine is Served") under original owner Winslow T. Porter Sr. The callsign was changed in 1964 to WJTO for "Where Jets Take Off" — a reference to nearby Brunswick Naval Air Station. In the 1960s and ‘70s, WJTO, with studios located in downtown Bath, gave several Portland stations real competition. The Kaiser Broadcasting Corp. was an American broadcast media company that owned and operated television and radio stations in the United States from 1957 to 1977. Kaiser Company Ltd., a multi-industrial conglomerate led by the eponymous industrialist, signed on KHVH and independent KHVH-TV (channel 13) in Honolulu, Hawaii, within two months of each other. Daniel Murphy (computer Scientist)
Daniel L. Murphy is an American computer scientist notable for his involvement in the development of TECO (an early text editor and programming language), the operating systems TENEX and TOPS-20, and email. Biography Murphy attended MIT from 1961 and graduated in 1965. In 1962 he created the text editor Text Editor and Corrector (TECO), later implemented on most of the PDP computers. He also developed a simple software demand paging system in software for the PDP-1 while at MIT. Murphy joined Bolt, Beranek and Newman BBN in 1965. There he used an SDS 940 computer running the Berkeley Timesharing System, which provided page memory management in hardware. When the PDP-10 was announced, he was one of the architects of the TENEX operating system developed for the custom paging hardware designed at BBN.
