WIPR-TV
WIPR-TV (channel 6) is a non-commercial educational public television station in San Juan, Puerto Rico, owned by the '' Corporación de Puerto Rico para la Difusión Pública'' (English: Puerto Rico Public Broadcasting Corporation). While WIPR-TV is a primary member station of PBS, most programming on its main channel is locally originated. WIPR-TV's studios are located on Hostos Avenue in Hato Rey, and its transmitter is located at Cerro La Santa in Cayey near the Bosque Estatal de Carite mountain reserve. Because of its audience, much of WIPR's programming is in Spanish, as with most Puerto Rico television stations. The station is branded as ''WIPR Television''. WIPR (AM)
WIPR (940 AM) is a public, non-commercial radio station broadcasting a talk radio format. Licensed to San Juan, Puerto Rico, the station is owned by The Puerto Rico Public Broadcasting Corporation and is branded as WIPR 940 AM. WIPR's audio signal had been simulcast on WIPR-TV channel 6.6 in San Juan & WIPM-TV channel 3.6 in Mayaguez, but was removed on March 20, 2017. On November 18, 2020 WIPR was granted a construction permit from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to move to a new transmitter site and to decrease power to 3,000 watts day and 1,900 watts night but is still broadcasting at 10,000 watts fulltime. FM broadcasting is a method of radio broadcasting using frequency modulation (FM). Invented in 1933 by American engineer Edwin Armstrong, wide-band FM is used worldwide to provide high fidelity sound over broadcast radio. Classical 24
Classical 24 is a syndicated, satellite-delivered public radio service providing classical music to its carrying stations. It generally airs overnights on many non-commercial and a handful of commercial classical music stations. However, the service is operated 24 hours a day and is used by some stations during the day to augment their schedules. It was co-created by a partnership between Minnesota Public Radio and Public Radio International to fulfill the need for a comprehensive classic music service for stations to supplement their schedules. As part of this partnership, the service is produced by American Public Media and since 2018, is distributed by Public Radio Exchange. It began operation on December 1, 1995.
