Tawas City, Michigan
Tawas City is a city in and county seat of Iosco County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,834 at the 2020 census. The city is mostly surrounded by Tawas Township, but the two area administered automously. History Tawas City was founded in 1854 as the first city to be located on the shores of Saginaw Bay and Lake Huron north of Bay City, Michigan. Tawas City was designated as the county seat of Iosco County, and the first post office was established Jan. 6, 1856, with James O. Whittemore appointed postmaster. Since Tawas City's founding, the community's economy has been a major factor influencing land use and development patterns. The Michigan Radio Network (or MRN) was a satellite-distributed news service that provides actualities, newscasts, and talk shows to affiliates in Michigan. It was most recently owned by Learfield Communications and had headquarters in Lansing, Michigan. Over the years MRN had been around in various forms and names, and is a sister network to the Michigan Farm Radio Network. East Tawas, Michigan
East Tawas is a city in Iosco County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,663 at the 2020 census. History The western New York firm Smith, Van Valkenburg, & Company bought land in the area in order to exploit the area's lumber resources. George Smith settled in the area in 1862 and founded the community. The East Tawas post office opened on April 15, 1867. A predecessor of the Detroit and Mackinac Railway built a station here, and the community incorporated as a village in 1887 and later as a city in 1895. Tawas Beach was established nearby in 1903 along the railway line in Baldwin Township. A post office opened here on June 12, 1903 until the community was annexed into the city of East Tawas in 1922. Middle of the road (also known by its acronym MOR) is a commercial radio format and popular music genre. Music associated with this term is strongly melodic and uses techniques of vocal harmony and light orchestral arrangements. The format was eventually rebranded as soft adult contemporary. Etymology and usage According to music academic Norman Abjorensen, "middle of the road" has referred to a commercial radio format more often than a music genre, although "it has been used to describe a broad type of music" of numerous styles, usually characterized by vocal harmony techniques, prominent melodies, and subtle orchestral arrangements.
