WIOE (AM)
WIOE (1450 AM) is a commercial oldies radio station licensed to serve Fort Wayne, Indiana. Owned by Brian Walsh, the station services the Fort Wayne Metropolitan Area and much of surrounding Northeastern Indiana as a full-power simulcast of WIOE (101.1 FM), licensed to nearby South Whitley. WIOE also simulcasts over Fort Wayne translator W282CH (104.3 FM). The WIOE studios are located in both Warsaw, and Fort Wayne, while WIOE's transmitter resides in Fort Wayne's East Central neighborhood along with W282CH's transmitter of Fort Wayne. Simulcast (a portmanteau of simultaneous broadcast) is the broadcasting of programmes/programs or events across more than one resolution, bitrate or medium, or more than one service on the same medium, at exactly the same time (that is, simultaneously). Hot Hits was a radio format created by consultant Mike Joseph in the 1970s. That concept, which helped spur the birth of what is now known as CHR, also revitalized the Top 40 format and would play a role in bringing the format to the FM band throughout the 1980s. The concept was to play only the current hits on the Top 30 (or Top 50 on some stations) and no recurrents (that is, recent hits which had already finished their run on the charts) or oldies whatsoever (unless they happened to be cuts on current chart albums). Call Sign
In broadcasting and radio communications, a call sign (also known as a call name or call letters—and historically as a call signal—or abbreviated as a call) is a unique identifier for a transmitter station. A call sign can be formally assigned by a government agency, informally adopted by individuals or organizations, or even cryptographically encoded to disguise a station's identity. The use of call signs as unique identifiers dates to the landline railroad telegraph system. Because there was only one telegraph line linking all railroad stations, there needed to be a way to address each one when sending a telegram. In order to save time, two-letter identifiers were adopted for this purpose.
