WINO (FM)
WINO (91.9 FM) is a community radio station broadcasting at 91.9 MHz, licensed to Watkins Glen, New York, and on W201CD 88.1 MHz, licensed to Ithaca, New York. The station studios are in downtown Ithaca. History In 2002, Ithaca Community Radio, Inc. obtained a FCC license for a translator on 88.1 FM in Ithaca. Because these have to re-broadcast full powered stations and ICR at this time did not own one, they at first re-broadcast WEOS and then later WSQX. In October 2007, they applied for a full powered FM license for Watkins Glen, as none were available for Ithaca proper. And then in June 2012, they completed their studios based in Clinton House in downtown Ithaca and finally went on the air as a community owned and operated station whose programming serves Tompkins and Schuyler counties. Watkins Glen, New York
Watkins Glen is a village and census-designated place in and the county seat of Schuyler County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 1,829. Watkins Glen lies within the towns of Dix and Reading. To the southwest of the village is the Watkins Glen International race track, which hosts annual NASCAR Cup Series and WeatherTech SportsCar Championship races, and formerly hosted the Formula One United States Grand Prix and various IndyCar races. History The settlement of the village began in 1791. First named "Jefferson" in 1842, the village was later renamed in 1852 to honor Dr. Samuel Watkins. Watkins' older brother John purchased property around the gorge in 1794 and constructed mills. WEOS
WEOS is a college radio station licensed to Geneva, New York, broadcasting primarily on 89.5 FM across the Finger Lakes region of New York. It also broadcasts on a smaller relay transmitter on 90.3FM in Geneva (call sign W212BA). The station is owned by The Colleges of the Seneca, Inc., the legal name of Hobart and William Smith Colleges. The board of trustees of the colleges are the owners, with the current President Mark Gearan as its chair. The programming is primarily NPR/public radio, with a focus more on news/talk shows. WSQX
WSQX-FM is an NPR member radio station in south-central New York State. It operates in Binghamton, New York, on 91.5 MHz ( FM), and has an effective radiated power of 3.5 kW. The signal is repeated in Greene by WSQN 88.1 MHz, in Corning by translator station W214AA on 90.7 MHz, and in Cooperstown by translator station W290CI on 105.9 MHz. WSQX-FM began broadcast at the beginning of 1995. The station had long aired an expanded schedule of NPR news programming, along with jazz music. However, on February 3, 2019, it switched to a mix of classical music during the week and jazz and folk music on weekends, consolidating all NPR news programming on sister station WSKG-FM.
