WAYZ is a country music formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Hagerstown, Maryland, serving the Four-State Area. In Pennsylvania, WAYZ can be heard clearly in parts of southwestern York county, and in all of Adams, Franklin, and Fulton Counties. WAYZ can be heard as far east as western Baltimore, and as far south as NW suburbs of Washington, DC. WAYZ is owned and operated by VerStandig Broadcasting. WBHB-FM is an active rock music formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, serving "Four-State" area (Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia). WBHB-FM is owned and operated by M. Belmont Verstandig, Inc. History Beginning in the late 1970s, then WAYZ 101.5 FM was a country-formatted station. In its early days, WAYZ was always the second country station in the Hagerstown market, generally dominated by Y96 WYII (now WICL). Over a period of years it became the top-rated station in the market. VerStandig bought powerhouse FM 104.7 from John Staub (Hagerstown Broadcasting) and moved the WAYZ country format there in 2000. They were left with FM 101.5 and for 3 weeks it broadcast an audio CNN headline news format. Classic hits is a radio format which generally includes songs from the top 40 music charts from the late 1960s to the early 2000s, with music from the 1980s serving as the core of the format. Hagerstown is a city in Washington County, Maryland, United States and the county seat of Washington County. The population of Hagerstown city proper at the 2020 census was 43,527, and the population of the Hagerstown metropolitan area (extending into West Virginia) was 269,140. Hagerstown ranks as Maryland's sixth-largest incorporated city and is the largest city in the Panhandle. Hagerstown has a distinct topography, formed by stone ridges running from northeast to southwest through the center of town. Geography accordingly bounds its neighborhoods.
