WGNO (channel 26) is a television station in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States, affiliated with ABC. It is owned by Nexstar Media Group alongside CW owned-and-operated station WNOL-TV (channel 38). History As an independent station The station first signed on the air at 5:00 p.m. on October 16, 1967, as WWOM-TV. The call sign stood for "The Wonderful World of Movies," an adaptation of the "Wonderful World of Music" meaning used by co-owned radio station WWOM (600 AM, now WVOG; and 98.5 FM, now WYLD-FM). The station inaugurated programming with a greeting by then-Mayor Victor H. Schiro, which was followed by its first program, the 1927 Al Jolson film ''The Jazz Singer''. The Galleria, located at One Galleria Boulevard in Metairie, Louisiana, is a 21-story, -tall skyscraper designed by architect HKS, Inc. The Galleria was completed in 1986 and is the second tallest building in Jefferson Parish. The tower's primary use is as office space, along with the studios of Nexstar Media Group's two television stations for the New Orleans market, ABC affiliate WGNO and CW affiliate WNOL-TV. The Financial News Network (FNN) was an American financial and business news television network that was launched November 30, 1981. The purpose of the network was to broadcast programming nationwide, five days a week for seven hours a day on thirteen stations, in an effort to expand the availability of business news for public dissemination. FNN was founded by Glen H. Taylor, a former minister of the Christian Church from 1950—1956, and producer of films for the California Department of Education. Frog) was an American television network launched on broadcast television on January 11, 1995, as a joint venture between the Warner Bros.
