WGEA (1150 AM) was a radio station licensed to serve Geneva, Alabama. Established in 1953, the station was owned by Shelley Broadcasting Company, Inc. It aired a talk radio format. The station was assigned the WGEA call letters by the Federal Communications Commission. Notable programming included a morning show with local host Clayton Flick plus local high school sporting events and national shows from syndicated hosts Bill Bennett, Mike Gallagher, Dennis Prager, Michael Medved and Mark Levin. WPHH (93.5 FM) is an American radio station licensed to serve the community of Hope Hull, Alabama, United States. The station broadcasts to the Montgomery area. History The station license and operation was transferred to William C Carn, III as Trustee for Stage Door Development, Inc in February 2008 by the US Bankruptcy Court. The then-WRJM-FM was later sold to Gulf South Communication's ''The Radio People'' on September 8, 2008, who then swapped formats with new sister station WDBT. The station had been broadcasting a News Talk Information format featuring programming from ABC Radio and Premiere Radio Networks prior to the switch. The long-time call sign "WRJM-FM" was changed to "WUSD" on August 28, 2008. WUSD was a country formatted station for most of its existence. Geneva is a city in and the county seat of Geneva County, Alabama, United States. It was incorporated in 1875. It is part of the Dothan, Alabama Metropolitan Statistical Area. Since 1940, it has been the largest city of Geneva County, and had a population of 4,292 as of the 2020 census. John Sparkman
John Jackson Sparkman (December 20, 1899 – November 16, 1985) was an American jurist and politician from the state of Alabama. A Southern Democrat, Sparkman served in the United States House of Representatives from 1937 to 1946 and the United States Senate from 1946 until 1979. He was the Democratic Party's nominee for vice president in the 1952 presidential election. Born in Morgan County, Alabama, Sparkman established a legal practice in Huntsville, Alabama, after graduating from the University of Alabama School of Law. He won election to the House in 1936 and served as house majority whip in 1946. He left the House in 1946 after winning a special election to succeed Senator John H. Bankhead II. While in the Senate, he helped establish Marshall Space Flight Center and served as the chairman of several committees. Geneva County is a county located in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 26,659. Its county seat is Geneva. The county was named after its county seat, which in turn was named after Geneva, New York which was named after Geneva, Switzerland, by Walter H. Yonge, an early town resident and Swiss native. Hope Hull, also known as McGehees Switch, is an unincorporated community in Montgomery County, Alabama, United States, southwest of Montgomery. It is home to the drive-through zoological park ''Alabama Safari Park''. History Hope Hull, a stop on the Mobile and Montgomery Railroad was originally known as McGehees Switch in honor of local planter Abner W. McGehee. McGehee later changed the name of the community to Hope Hull, in honor of a Methodist circuit rider he met while living in Georgia. Seth Gordon Persons (February 5, 1902 – May 29, 1965) was an American Democratic politician who was the 43rd Governor of Alabama from 1951 to 1955. He was born and died in Montgomery, Alabama. The Dauphin Island Bridge south of Mobile is formally named for him. The Gordon Persons Building is a six floor, 60,000 square foot state government office building in Montgomery. Persons studied electrical engineering in college, leading to a very successful business running electrical lines in rural Alabama (benefiting from Rural Electrification Administration contracts); in addition to financial gain, he also won considerable popularity.
