WGAW (1340 AM) is a radio station licensed to Gardner, Massachusetts. Established in 1946 as WHOB, the station is owned by Steven Wendell and carries a talk radio format. History The station signed on December 23, 1946 as WHOB. It debuted at 1490 kHz on the AM dial, and the call letters referred to one of the station's founders, District Attorney Owen A. Hoban. WHOB was originally owned by David M. Richman, a Connecticut businessman; studios were in the Colonial Hotel in Gardner. The station's format was a variety of local news, music, and sports. One of the early stars on WHOB was a local country (then called "hillbilly") music performer named Doc Snow (real name: Edgar Arsenault). He performed live with his band, the Bar X Cowboys, and later became one of the station's announcers. The station was sold to Emilien R. WAZN
WAZN (1470 AM) is an ethnic radio station in the Boston, Massachusetts market, licensed to Watertown. It is owned by Multicultural Broadcasting, and broadcasts Chinese language programming, simulcast from M.R.B.I.'s New York City station. History The station signed on in January 1958 as WSRO, operating out of Marlborough. At one time, WSRO was a music station. Additionally, at one time, the station was simulcast in Gardner on WGAW (1340). However, in 1996, the station filed for bankruptcy, and was sold separately from WGAW in October. The new ownership gradually shifted the station to more of a talk radio format the following year. WSRO was sold to Alex Langer in 1998. In early 1999, the station let go much of its staff and became a full-time relay of sister station WRPT (650); soon afterward, the station lost its original transmitter location in Marlborough and relocated to a temporary site in Hudson. Gardner, officially the City of Gardner, is a city in Worcester County in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States. The population was 21,287 in the 2020 census. Gardner is home of such sites as the Blue Moon Diner, Dunn State Park, Gardner Heritage State Park, and Mount Wachusett Community College. History Named in honor of Thomas Gardner, the land was first settled by Europeans in 1764 and was officially incorporated as a town in 1785, after receiving land grants from the surrounding towns of Ashburnham, Templeton, Westminster, and Winchendon. Bedford is a town in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 23,322, reflecting a growth of 10% from 2010. Bedford is a suburb of Manchester, New Hampshire's largest city. Ernie Anastos (born July 12, 1943) is an American news anchor and the host of the show ''Positively America with Ernie Anastos''. He anchored the news at 6 p.m. on WNYW in New York City. He was also the anchor of the 5 and 10 p.m. newscasts on Fox 5 News. In 2017, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio honored Anastos by designating every March 21 to be Ernie Anastos Day. Marlborough is a city in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 41,793 at the 2020 census. Marlborough became a prosperous industrial town in the 19th century and made the transition to high technology industry in the late 20th century after the construction of the Massachusetts Turnpike. WJDA (1300 AM) is a radio station in Quincy, Massachusetts, serving the Boston area with a Reggaeton format. The station’s studios are in Chelsea. History The station began in 1947 as a local station for the South Shore region, owned by James D. Asher, and later by his son Jay. For much of its history, WJDA provided talk programming and (in its last years) ABC Radio's Unforgettable Favorites satellite soft AC format, operating under the branding "Radio ''your'' way."
