WFND-LD (channel 19) is a low-power television station in Findlay, Ohio, United States, serving the Toledo area as a Buckeye Cable Sports Network affiliate owned by Block Communications. Its licensee is West Central Ohio Broadcasting, Inc., a Block subsidiary. Block also owns several other assets in Northwestern Ohio, including '' The Blade'', Buckeye CableSystem and WLIO. Engineering operations and monitoring are performed from West Central Ohio Broadcasting's operation center at 1424 Rice Avenue in Lima. The engineering supervisor is Frederick Vobbe. Buckeye Cable Sports Network
BCSN is a regional sports network founded in 2003 (and first went on the air on January 7, 2004) to carry sports broadcasting, which had previously been aired on fellow cable-only station WT05. Overview The station airs Toledo Mud Hens games, BGSU ice hockey and other BGSU sports, University of Toledo sports, high school sports including the Northwest Hockey Conference, college basketball, and other sports games. The network also had broadcast rights to carry the Cleveland Indians. Previously BCSN carried Toledo Storm hockey games from 2004 to 2007 and starting in 2009, the network began carrying every home game of the Toledo Walleye ECHL hockey team. Block Communications
Block Communications Inc. (also known as Blade Communications) is an American privately held holding company of various assets, mainly in the print and broadcast media, based in Toledo, Ohio. The company was founded in 1900 in New York City when Paul Block, a German-Jewish immigrant who came to the United States fifteen years prior, formed an ad representation firm for newspapers. The Block empire grew to encompass many newspapers on the east coast of the US, however with the Great Depression in the 1930s came the loss of all but three properties: the ad representation firm, the ''Pittsburgh Post-Gazette'', and the Toledo ''Blade'' (where Block eventually settled the company upon its purchase in 1927). WLIO, virtual and VHF digital channel 8, is a dual NBC/Fox- affiliated television station licensed to Lima, Ohio, United States. Owned by Block Communications, it is a sister station to low-powered, Class A dual ABC/CBS affiliate WOHL-CD (channel 35). The two stations share studios on Rice Avenue northwest of downtown; WLIO's transmitter is located on Saint Clair Avenue north of downtown. History The station signed on April 18, 1953, with the calls WLOK-TV. It aired an analog signal on UHF channel 73. ''The Blade'', also known as the ''Toledo Blade'', is a newspaper in Toledo, Ohio published daily online and printed Thursday and Sunday by Block Communications. The newspaper was first published on December 19, 1835. Overview The first issue of what was then the ''Toledo Blade'' was printed on December 19, 1835. It has been published daily since 1848 and is the oldest continuously run business in Toledo. David Ross Locke gained national fame for the paper during the Civil War era by writing under the pen name Petroleum V. Nasby. Under this name, he wrote satires ranging on topics from slavery, to the Civil War, to temperance. President Abraham Lincoln was fond of the Nasby satires and sometimes quoted them.
