WCRB (99.5 FM) is a non-commercial radio station licensed to Lowell, Massachusetts, which serves the Greater Boston area. It broadcasts classical music. Its studios are located in Brighton, and its transmitter is located west of Andover. WCRB was a commercial station from the early 1950s to December 2009, when it was acquired by the WGBH Educational Foundation. WKLB-FM (102.5 FM broadcasting, FM, "Country 102.5") is a country music, country radio station licensed to Waltham, Massachusetts, and serving Greater Boston. WKLB's studios are located in Waltham. Charles River Broadcasting
Charles River Broadcasting Company was the owner of three classical music stations, one classic rock station, one CNN Headline News affiliate in Rhode Island, and a syndicated classical music program service. History The company began in 1948 when WCRB first signed on the air at 1330 AM. Its principals were Richard C. O'Hare, Managing Director; Deuel Richardson, General Manager and Program Director; and L.P. Liles, Commercial Manager. Harold P. Richardson was the Promotions Manager. Lawrence A. Reilly was Chief Engineer. The following year, Theodore Jones was hired as Executive Manager. In 1952, he and Stephen Paine acquired controlling ownership of the company from O'Hare and Deuel. WRCA (1330 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Watertown, Massachusetts, and serving the Greater Boston media market. The license is held by the Beasley Media Group, LLC, part of the Beasley Broadcast Group, Inc. WJMF (88.7 FM) is a radio station in Smithfield, Rhode Island, owned by Bryant University. The station's primary channel is a classical music station simulcasting WCRB from Boston. It serves the Providence area. WJMF also operates an HD2 channel run by Bryant University students; from 1973 until 2011, this service was heard on its primary channel. The station has over 40 shows and more than 100 DJs. It plays a variety of music ranging from alternative to talk to Top 40.
