WCMS-FM (94.5 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a New Country format. Licensed to Hatteras, North Carolina, United States, the station serves the Elizabeth City-Nags Head area. WCMS has used the name "Water Country" since it signed on in 1999. The original call letters were WWOC. The change to the WCMS call letters was granted on 7/28/2005. WZPR (92.3 FM, "Z92.3") is a mainstream rock radio station licensed to Nags Head, North Carolina, serving the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The station is owned by Jonathan A. Mason, Sr., through licensee Jam Media Solutions, LLC. The original WZPR was a country station in Meadville, Pennsylvania at 100.3 FM. That station dropped the call letters when it became known as "Froggy" in early 2000. History WZPR began as a country music station in the 1990s as WNHW, at 92.5 FM. In 2000, the station became soft adult contemporary WYND "The Wind 92.3". In late 2002, Convergent Broadcasting, LLC purchased these two stations from OBX Broadcasting. WVOD, is a commercial radio station licensed to Manteo, North Carolina serving the Outer Banks of North Carolina which includes Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, and Nags Head. WVOD broadcasts at 50,000 watts at 99.1 FM and is formatted as an AAA or Adult Album Alternative music station. The station is owned by Jam Media Solutions, LLC. History WVOD-FM began life on 99.3 FM as 99 3D, "Your Voices of Dare". Two Dare County businesswomen established the station under the company name "Orbit Communications", and with the license and engineering permits in place, the station began broadcasting on Easter weekend 1986. Hatteras, North Carolina
Hatteras is an unincorporated village and census-designated place (CDP) in Dare County, North Carolina, United States, on the Outer Banks island of Hatteras, at its extreme southwestern tip. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 504. Immediately to the west of the village of Hatteras is Hatteras Inlet which separates Hatteras Island from the neighboring Ocracoke Island. North Carolina Highway 12 passes through the community linking it to Frisco to the east and Ocracoke to the west (via a ferry across Hatteras Inlet). Nielsen Audio (formerly Arbitron) is a consumer research company in the United States that collects listener data on radio broadcasting audiences. It was founded as the American Research Bureau by Jim Seiler in 1949 and became national by merging with Los Angeles-based Coffin, Cooper, and Clay in the early 1950s. The company's initial business was the collection of broadcast television ratings. The company changed its name to Arbitron in the mid‑1960s, the namesake of the Arbitron System, a centralized statistical computer with leased lines to viewers' homes to monitor their activity. FM broadcasting is a method of radio broadcasting using frequency modulation (FM).
