WCMG
WCMG (94.3 FM) is a radio station broadcasting an urban adult contemporary format. Licensed to Latta, South Carolina, United States, the station is owned by Cumulus Media. History WCMG went on the air as WATP-FM, the sister station to now-defunct WATP (1430 AM). Both stations were licensed to Marion, South Carolina. WATP (AM) played country music, while WATP-FM played beautiful music. As WKXS ''Kiss 94'', the FM station played country music before a switch to CHR/Urban Contemporary (also known as "CHUrban", a forerunner to the rhythmic contemporary format) in February 1988 under their new call letters WWPD (''Power 94''); the AM took over the WKXS letters and played oldies until having its license cancelled in 1997. Latta, South Carolina
Latta is a town in Dillon County, South Carolina, United States. Latta is the second largest town in Dillon County. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 1,379. History Latta was established in 1887. The town arose from a need for a railroad, which helped to eliminate "the need to travel to Wilmington, North Carolina, in order to reach many points in South Carolina." Thus, the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad built two depots; one in the city of Dillon and the other to the south in Latta. The depots were completed in 1888. Many families were drawn to this area, and in March 1890, "the town of Latta was incorporated by the state legislature and received its charter." The town was named for the Latta family of settlers. More specifically, it was named after Captain Robert Latta, who was from York County, South Carolina; he orchestrated the engineering for the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. Urban contemporary music, also known as urban music, hip hop, urban pop, or just simply urban, is a music radio format. The term was coined by New York radio DJ Frankie Crocker in the early to mid-1970s as a synonym for Black music. Urban contemporary radio stations feature a playlist made up entirely of Black genres such as R&B, pop-rap, quiet storm, urban adult contemporary, hip hop, Latin music such as Latin pop, Chicano R&B and Chicano rap, and Caribbean music such as reggae and soca. Rhythmic contemporary, also known as Rhythmic Top 40, Rhythmic CHR or rhythmic crossover, is a primarily American music-radio format that includes a mix of EDM, upbeat rhythmic pop, hip hop and upbeat R&B hits. Rhythmic contemporary never uses hard rock or country in its airplay, but it may occasionally use a reggae, Latin, reggaeton, or a urban contemporary gospel hit.
