WBYR (98.9 FM), branded as 98.9 The Bear, is a radio station licensed to Woodburn, Indiana with studios in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The station broadcasts an active rock format. WBYR is owned by Federated Media. History WBYR was the former WERT-FM and WKSD in Van Wert, Ohio, owned by Ray Livesay. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, WERT-FM simulcast its sister AM station. When the FCC gave the ultimatum for Class B FM stations to increase power to maximum levels or be downgraded, WERT-FM increased power to 50,000 watts and introduced a beautiful music format. Once the station was sold to Atlantic Resources, the call letters were changed to WKSD ("Kiss 99") with a satellite-delivered adult contemporary format. WKSD
WKSD (99.7 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a locally produced Classic Hits format. Licensed to Paulding, Ohio, United States, the station is currently owned by First Family Broadcasting and features news programming from ABC Radio. History The station went on the air as WKSD on June 7, 1989. On April 10, 1992, the station changed its call sign to WERT-FM, and on September 6, 1996, changed back to the original WKSD. WFWI is an FM radio station located in Fort Wayne, Indiana with a classic hits format. The station operates on the FM radio frequency of 92.3 MHz. The station's main competitor is WLDE. History WFWI began broadcasting in March 1993 with an adult contemporary format under the ownership of Russ Oasis and Steve Avellone, with Tony Coles as the first program director. In early 1994, Oasis and Coles then changed the format to 1970s hits; shortly after, Coles left Fort Wayne for New York's WLTW and production director Keith Harris took over as WFWI's program director. Under Harris's tenure, the format was shifted to classic hits. On January 6, 1995, the Bob & Tom Show became the station's morning show. In 1997, Federated Media purchased WFWI from Edgewater Radio. Licensed to Van Wert, Ohio, United States, the station serves Van Wert primarily but is considered part of the Lima market. History Today's WQHK-FM went on the air from Decatur, Indiana, as WADM-FM 92.7 on November 8, 1966. It was owned by Airon, Incorporated, alongside WADM (1540 AM). The WADM stations were purchased outright by WFYC, Inc., owner of the WFYC stations in Alma, Michigan, in 1978. Midwest Communications Company, owned by Richard Sommerville and his son, acquired the pair in 1984; Richard's brother David owned 35 percent of the seller, and other family members were involved in radio holdings in Michigan. WKJG (1380 AM; "1380 The Fan") is a radio station located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The station, owned by Federated Media, is Fort Wayne's Fox Sports Radio affiliate. History WKJG began broadcasting November 15, 1947 under the ownership of Northeastern Indiana Broadcasting, itself controlled by William Kunkel.
