WBOW (1230 AM)
WBOW was a radio station on 1230 AM in Terre Haute, Indiana, which broadcast between 1927 and 2001. In the early 1990s, the WBOW intellectual unit moved to a new 640 AM facility. 1230 then became WBFX, WZZQ and WBUZ, closing down when its licensee, Contemporary Media, Inc., had all of its licenses cancelled in response to a Federal Communications Commission investigation. History WBOW WBOW was the first successful radio station in Terre Haute, though it was not the first outright. That distinction belonged to WEAC, a short-lived station owned by Camille C. Baines that broadcast between May 30 and August 1922. WIBQ
WIBQ (1230 AM, "NewsTalk 1230") is a radio station broadcasting a news/talk format. Licensed to Terre Haute, Indiana, the station serves the Terre Haute area. It first began broadcasting in 1958 under the call sign WMFT. The station is currently owned by Duey E. Wright, through licensee Midwest Communications, Inc. History WIBQ's history combines a now-defunct 1300 AM intellectual unit with a newer license on 1230 kHz. AM 1300 history The Mobley and Ford families, organized as the Citizens Broadcasting Company, received the construction permit for WWVR on 1300 kHz. Before going on air, the call letters changed to WMFT. After several sales within Citizens, the station relaunched as WAAC on May 1, 1963. By 1977, ownership was concentrated in Martha Foulkes, doing business as Marchild, Inc. Foulkes sold WIBQ in 1982 to the Oak Ridge Boys Broadcasting Corporation of Indiana. Fredonia is a village in Chautauqua County, New York, United States. The population was 9,871 as of the 2020 census. Fredonia is in the town of Pomfret south of Lake Erie. The village is the home of the State University of New York at Fredonia (in the northwest part of the village). WBUZ (1570 AM, "1570 The Buzz") is a now-defunct radio station that was based in Fredonia, New York. The station was privately owned by Henry Serafin. History The station signed on the air in August 1957 under the ownership of permittee Louis W. Skelly, who received the permit to build the station on August 27, 1956. Studios and offices were located at 15 East Main Street in Fredonia. The station operated at a daytime-only power of 250 watts. Skelly, a native of Austintown, Ohio, sold the station to Dunkirk-Fredonia Broadcasting, Inc., which also owned the Dunkirk-Fredonia Observer newspaper. The transaction was finalized on January 1, 1959. On April 4, 1963, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) granted permission to move the station to 2 West Main Street in Fredonia, with the transmitting equipment and tower located on Clinton Avenue. Eldon is a city in Miller County, Missouri, United States, located southwest of Jefferson City. The population was 4,567 at the 2010 census. History Eldon was platted in 1881, and according to tradition, named after a railroad official.
