WASR (AM)
WASR (1420 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station broadcasting a classic hits format, along with some talk programming. WASR is licensed to Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, and serves the New Hampshire Lakes Region. The station is owned by Winnipesaukee Radio Station, LLC and runs local programming with national news and weather. In February 2020 new station manager Eric Scott changed the format to variety hits with some local talk including a live call in show at noon, a local sports show on Friday afternoons, and a live Catholic Mass Sunday mornings. WASR also carries the WTPL-produced talk show ''Good Morning New Hampshire'', hosted by Jack Heath. At one time, WASR was an adult standards station, carrying Citadel Media's Timeless service. It also tried conservative talk with little success. The station switched to the current format on February 24, 2020. Wolfeboro, New Hampshire
Wolfeboro is a town in Carroll County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 6,416 at the 2020 census. A resort area situated beside Lake Winnipesaukee, Wolfeboro includes the village of Wolfeboro Falls. History The town was granted by colonial Governor Benning Wentworth in 1759 to four young men of Portsmouth, and named "Wolfeborough" in honor of English General James Wolfe, who had been victorious at the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in 1759 during the French and Indian War. In 1763, were added to the reserved for the governor. Colonial Governor John Wentworth, Benning Wentworth's nephew, established an estate on the site, known as Kingswood. Timeless was a 24-hour satellite music service of Citadel Media (through Citadel Broadcasting). It has distributed a mix of soft oldies and adult standards to radio stations around the United States. It was a combination of two former formats: gold-based adult contemporary Unforgettable Favorites (also known as "Memories") and adult standards Timeless Classics/Timeless Favorites (originally known as "Stardust"). Since 2007, it was simply known as "Timeless", still using the "Timeless Favorites" branding sparingly. Cumulus Media Networks was an American radio network owned and operated by Cumulus Media. From 2011 until its merger with Westwood One, it controlled many of the radio assets formerly belonging to the American Broadcasting Company (ABC), which was broken up in 2007; Cumulus owned the portion of the network that was purchased by Citadel Broadcasting that year. The network adopted its final name in September 2011, following Cumulus's acquisition of Citadel; prior to this, it had been known as Citadel Media Networks since April 2009, after licensing the "ABC Radio Networks" name from The Walt Disney Company for nearly two years. WTPL (107.7 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a news/talk format. Licensed to Hillsborough, New Hampshire, United States, it serves the Manchester and Concord areas. The station is owned by Bill Binnie's Binnie Media, through licensee WBIN Media Co., Inc. It airs a news/talk radio format. It the flagship station of "The Pulse of NH", a trimulcast with WTSN in the Seacoast Region and WEMJ in the Lakes Region. History The original construction permit for the station was granted on August 4, 1987, under the call sign of WRCI; a license to cover was granted on September 7, 1990. However, the station's original owners, Empire Radio Partners, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1992, and the station was sold to Radioworks in 1993.
