WASC (1530 AM) is a daytime-only American radio station located in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The station is licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to broadcast on 1530 AM. History In 1985, WASC attempted to move to 760 AM. Urban Oldies
Urban adult contemporary, often abbreviated as urban AC or UAC, (also known as adult R&B,) is the name for a format of radio music, similar to an urban contemporary format. Radio stations using this format usually would not have hip hop music on their playlists, and generally include some mix of contemporary R&B and traditional R&B (while urban oldies stations emphasize only the latter). Urban adult contemporary playlists generally consist of many different genres that originated amongst Black Americans including R&B, soul, funk, disco, jazz, pop, hip-hop, electro, quiet storm, gospel, new jack swing, and hip-hop soul. Critical Hours
Critical hours for radio stations is the time from sunrise to two hours after sunrise, and from two hours before sunset until sunset, local time. During this time, certain American radio stations may be operating with reduced power as a result of Section 73.187 of the Federal Communications Commission's rules. Canadian restricted hours are similar to critical hours, except that the restriction results from the January 17, 1984, U.S.-Canadian AM Agreement. Canadian restricted hours are called "critical hours" in the U.S.-Canadian Agreement, but in the AM Engineering database, the FCC calls them "Canadian restricted hours" to distinguish them from the domestically defined critical hours. AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. It was the first method developed for making audio radio transmissions, and is still used worldwide, primarily for medium wave (also known as "AM band") transmissions, but also on the longwave and shortwave radio bands. WCIS (760 AM), "Western Carolina Inspiration Station," is a radio station broadcasting a Southern Gospel Music format. Licensed to Morganton, North Carolina, United States, it serves the area. The station is currently owned by WFM Incorporated. History In December 1985, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) granted a license to American Beacon Broadcasting, majority owned by Ernie Penley, Jr., station manager of WPTL in Canton, North Carolina. Sherrill Greene of Glen Alpine was the other owner. The plan was to play Contemporary Christian music by such artists as Amy Grant and Sandi Patti, with a target audience of 25 to 45. WCIS did not sign on until March 1988, and the format changed to Southern Gospel in January 1989. Many listeners were over 50. On February 1, 2008, the station's building was destroyed by fire. Morganton is a city in and the county seat of Burke County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 16,918 at the 2010 census. Morganton is approximately northwest of Charlotte.
