WAMV (Illinois)
WAMV was a radio station that operated in East St. Louis, Illinois, from 1935 to 1964 on the AM band. An FM adjunct operated at from 1960 to 1964, using the WAMV-FM call sign at both the beginning and conclusion of its existence. History WTMV WTMV signed on at 6 p.m. on May 19, 1935. WTMV broadcast at 1500 kHz and was owned by the Mississippi Valley Broadcasting Company, with studios in the Broadview Hotel. The station relocated to 1490 kHz after NARBA. Almost immediately after the frequency change took effect on March 29, 1941, the station attempted to increase its power from 250 watts during the day to 1,000 watts day and 500 night. In 1945, Carlin French sold WTMV to William F. Johns of Chicago and his son, Myles H. Johns of Milwaukee; both owned radio stations in Wisconsin. WXOS (101.1 FM broadcasting, FM) is a commercial radio station affiliated with ESPN Radio and licensed to East St. Louis, Illinois, broadcasting to the Greater St. Louis area. Owned by Hubbard Broadcasting, its studio facilities are located on Olive Boulevard in St. Louis, while its transmitter is located in south St. Louis County, Missouri, St. Louis County near Concord, Missouri, Concord. Programming WXOS, an ESPN Radio affiliate, carries ESPN shows on nights and weekends. The station is the flagship station for the St. Louis Blues. Belleville is a city and the county seat of St. Clair County, Illinois, coterminous with the now defunct Belleville Township. The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows is a Catholic shrine to the Blessed Virgin Mary in Belleville, Illinois, nine miles southeast of St. Louis, Missouri. The Shrine's director is the Reverend Father David Uribe, OMI. The shrine is in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Belleville, but it is operated by the United States Province of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. The Shrine name refers to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome, where legend says snow fell in the summertime. KFTK was a commercial radio station that was licensed to East St. Louis, Illinois at 1490 AM, and broadcast from 1972 to 2020. KFTK's transmitter was located in East St. Louis. From 2016 to 2020, KFTK and low-power translator K254CR (98.7 FM) were operated by both Emmis Communications and Entercom as a full-time simulcast of KFTK-FM (97.1). The station's license was revoked by the Federal Communications Commission after it was revealed that its principal owner, Entertainment Media Trust (doing business as Insane Broadcasting), was set up as a shell company for a convicted felon.
