WADK (1540 AM) is a radio station licensed to serve Newport, Rhode Island, United States. The station is owned by 3G Broadcasting, Inc. It airs a news/talk format, with jazz airing each weekend. The station, the first to be built on Aquidneck Island, signed on the air in 1948 and has used the callsign WADK since November 23, 1953. Its broadcast tower has been located off Garfield Street in Newport since 1967. History On December 2, 1947, John E. and Irene "Reeny" A. Malloy, doing business as Voice of Little Rhody, filed for a construction permit to build a new radio station on 1540 kHz at Newport, which was granted by the Federal Communications Commission on August 4, 1948. The station began broadcasting on November 6, 1948, as WRJM, for "Reeny and John Malloy". The Malloys would not own their new radio station for long, citing a lack of financial resources. WMNP (99.3 FM, "Mixx 99.3") is an American radio station licensed to serve the community of Block Island, Rhode Island. The station is owned by 3G Broadcasting, Inc. Its studio is located in Newport, Rhode Island. WMNP broadcasts a Top 40 (CHR) music format that targets southern Rhode Island, Southeastern Connecticut and the South Coast of Massachusetts. History Established in 1984 as WITQ, it officially signed on in October 1988 as WBLQ. The WBLQ callsign is now on 1230 AM owned by former WBLQ alum Chris DiPaola. The format was automated adult contemporary until the early 1990s when the station shifted its programming to an eclectic album rock format. Sylvia Cadeski (July 27, 1920 – May 25, 2017), known professionally as Saucy Sylvia, was a Canadian-born American comedian, classically trained pianist, singer, and radio personality. Biography Early life and career Saucy Sylvia was born Sylvia Cadeski in Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada in 1920, and grew up in the small village of Mount Forest. At age 6, she began playing the piano, which she learned from the nuns at Sisters of St. Joseph Academy. She played in a country band in high school. Sylvia eventually graduated from the Conservatory of Music in Toronto. She later left the university of Toronto with a teaching degree and a masters in languages and while in school, she worked at a small local radio station and hosted her own radio show while in college in Toronto. WKKB (100.3 FM, "Latina 100.3") is a radio station in Middletown, Rhode Island, United States. The station airs a Tropical format, which consists of such musical styles as salsa and merengue and some reggaeton. Its transmitter is located in Middletown. Its offices and studios are located in 75 Oxford Street in Providence, while its transmitter is located in Tiverton. Prior to its switch to Tropical, the station was a rock station. Westerly is a town on the southwestern shoreline of Washington County, Rhode Island, first settled by English colonists in 1661 and incorporated as a municipality in 1669. It is a beachfront community on the south shore of the state with a population of 23,359 as of the 2020 census.
