WACFL Logo
Country Football WA (CFWA) is the governing body for the sport of Australian rules football in the non-metropolitan areas of Western Australia. The organisation was founded in 1973 as the Western Australian National Country Football League (WANCFL) before becoming the West Australian Country Football League in 1979. The organisation rebranded to its current name in September 2023. CFWA is also responsible for organising the Country Football Championships, contested annually between the various regional sides. Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Throwing the ball is not allowed, and players must not get caught holding the ball. Eastern Districts Football League
The Eastern Districts Football League is an Australian rules football league based in the eastern Wheatbelt (Western Australia), Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. The league stretches from Southern Cross, Western Australia, Southern Cross in the east, Hyden, Western Australia, Hyden in the south, Corrigin, Western Australia, Corrigin in the west and Merredin, Western Australia, Nukarni in the north. History The Eastern Districts Football League (EDFL) was formed in 1960 after a merger of the Merredin Football Association (MFA) and the Bruce Rock-Narembeen Football Association (BRNFA). Ongerup Football Association
The Ongerup Football Association is an Australian rules football competition based in the Great Southern region of rural Western Australia. It was formed in 1962 with the current reserves competition inaugurated in 1980. History The Association commenced in 1962 with just two clubs, Ongerup and Hassell. After two seasons, Borden and Pingrup joined, making four clubs. Hassell demerged in 1968 into Jerramungup and Boxwood Hills making five clubs. Kent Districts joined in 1972 after leaving the Central Great Southern Football League and won the premiership the following year. Newdegate was next to join the Association when the ‘Lions’ entered in 1983. Gnowangerup then joined in 1987 after also leaving the CGSFL with the last team to join being Lake Grace with an immediate merger with Pingrup ending up in Lake Grace/Pingrup. North Midlands Football League
The North Midlands Football League is an Australian rules football leagues based in Mid West (Western Australia). The league was formed in 1921 as the North Midlands Football Association. The five founding teams were Three Springs, Carnamah, Arrino, Mingenew (not the current Mingenew club) and Yandanooka. In 1926, Mingenew and Yandanooka merged to form Mingenew-Yandanooka. That club only lasted two seasons, and folded at the end of the 1927 season. The league remained a four-club competition when Coorow joined in 1928. The league then remained unchanged until it went into recess in 1941 due to World War II. The League recommenced in 1946 with the same four clubs, and continued until the end of the 1959 season. The Hills Football Association is an Australian rules football leagues based in Western Australia. The association was formed in 1946. The inaugural clubs were chidlow, Western Australia, Chidlow, Mundaring, Western Australia, Mundaring, Parkerville, Western Australia, Parkerville, Sawyers Valley, Western Australia, Sawyers Valley and Mt Helena, Western Australia, Mt Helena. Goldfields Football League
The Goldfields Football League is an Australian rules football league based in the Goldfields region of Western Australia. Founded in 1896 as Hannans District Football Association, the league enjoyed a seat and full voting rights on the Australian National Football Council until 1919. The first clubs to play Australian football were formed within the region, and the league helped popularise the sport in the region, helping to establish the sport and supplant Rugby in popularity.
