The Argentina national rugby union team (Spanish: ''Selecciテウn de rugby de Argentina'') represents Argentina in men's international rugby union; it is organised by the Argentine Rugby Union ( es, Uniテウn Argentina de Rugby). Nicknamed the Pumas (''Los Pumas'' in Spanish), they play in sky blue and white jerseys. They are ranked 6th in the world by World Rugby, making them the highest-ranked nation in the Americas. Argentina played its first international rugby match in 1910 against a touring British Isles team. Enrique "Topo" Edgardo Rodrテュguez is an Argentina-born Australian former rugby union player. Rodriguez retired from rugby union after having played at international level for Argentina, Tahiti and Australia. He was part of the Australian team in the 1984 Grand Slam tour of Great Britain & Ireland. He also represented the Wallabies at the inaugural 1987 Rugby World Cup hosted by Australia & New Zealand. Rodriguez captained Australia against Mendoza Province in Argentina before retiring from international rugby in November 1987. He was also selected for the South American XV Jaguars in 1980, gaining four test caps against the Springboks. Rodriguez played tighthead prop, loosehead prop and hooker. Gabriel Travaglini
Gabriel Travaglini (born in Buenos Aires, 14 February 1958) is an Argentine retired rugby union player. He played as number 8. He played for CASI for all of his entire career. As of April 2022, he is the chairman of Uniテウn Argentina de Rugby. Career Travaglini debuted with Club Atlテゥtico San Isidro against Banco Naciテウn, in September 1977, playing as lock. Between 1980 and 1986, Travaglini was the captain for CASI. His first match for Argentina was against Italy, on 24 October 1978. He was also part of the 1987 Rugby World Cup Pumas roster, playing all the three matches, ending his international career in the pool stage match against the All Blacks. Rafael M. Madero (born Buenos Aires, 16 July 1958) is an Argentine former rugby union player and coach. He played as a Fullback. Centre and Fly-half. Career Starting his career in the SIC, Madero played for the team until 1990; as a wing, centre, and rarely as fly-half, he won eight URBA titles from 1977 to 1988. Internationally capped for Argentina since 1978, he took part to some significant moments of the Pumas in the late 1970s and most of the 1980s: in 1979, at Buenos Aires, during the match against Australia, he scored 8 points (2 tries) of the total 24 with which Argentina won (the other 16 were scored by Hugo Porta). Marcelo Loffreda
Marcelo Loffreda (born May 17, 1959, in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is an Argentine former rugby union footballer and coach. Loffreda won 44 caps with one as captain, playing at centre for the Argentine rugby union side (''los Pumas''). He played much of his career outside the legendary Hugo Porta and scored 4 test tries. In 1994 he hung up his playing boots and became a coach. In April 2000, he was appointed coach of Argentina and steered them to series victories over France, Wales and Scotland, a draw with the British and Irish Lions, a win against England at Twickenham in November 2006 as well as coming close to securing the Pumas' first victories over South Africa and New Zealand. Marcelo Campo (1 July 1957 窶 26 June 2021) was an Argentine rugby union player. He played as a wing. Career Campo played for Old Georgians, from Quilmes. With said club, he was in the international rugby scene. The first time he wore Argentina's jersey was in a match against England XV at Twickenham, even if it was not formally a test match, which was in the second match, at Rovigo, against Italy, on 24 October 1978. However, that match at London, which ended 13-13, saw Campo going to the try line in such a spectacular manner. Eliseo Nicolテ。s Branca (born 20 September 1957 in Hurlingham) is a former Argentine rugby union player. He played as a lock. After leaving his local club, his entire career has been with Club Atlテゥtico San Isidro CASI, where he was a player for 27 years, and then a coach. Career Hailing from Hurlingham, in the Buenos Aires province, Branca started his career in the local club Curupaytテュ. Hugo Porta
Hugo Porta (born 11 September 1951) is a former Argentine Rugby Union footballer, an inductee of both the International Rugby Hall of Fame and IRB Hall of Fame, and one of the best fly-halves the sport has seen. During the 1970s and 1980s, he played 58 times for ''Los Pumas'', captaining them on 34 occasions, including leading them during the first World Cup in 1987. Porta made his international debut in 1971.
