W.A.K.O. European Championships 2004 (Budva)
W.A.K.O. European Championships 2004 in Budva were the joint seventeenth European championships (the other event would be held the next month in Maribor, Slovenia) and were the fourth W.A.K.O. championships (including world) to be held in Serbia and Montenegro/Yugoslavia. The event was open to around 300 amateur men and women from 26 nations from across Europe. The styles on offer at Budva included; Full-Contact, Low-Kick and Muay Thai, Thai-Boxing – with women's Thai-Boxing competitions introduced for the very first time at a W.A.K.O. championships. The other less physical competitions (Light and Semi-Contact, Musical Forms, Aero Kickboxing) would take place at the event in Maribor. By the end of the championships Russia was easily the top nation with a huge medal collection across all styles, hosts Serbia and Montenegro trailed way behind in second and Belarus were in third. World Association Of Kickboxing Organizations
The World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (W.A.K.O or WAKO) is an international kickboxing organization counting over 120 affiliated countries representing all five continents. WAKO is a major governing body of amateur kickboxing and is responsible for the development of kickboxing worldwide. The organization was officially recognized as an official kickboxing governing body by Sport Accord. List Of WAKO Amateur World Championships
W.A.K.O. held its first amateur world championships in 1978 in West Berlin, after having previously staged two European championships the two years previously. It followed this with a second world championships a year later in Tampa, Florida. During the 1980s the world championships were held every other year except for in 1985 when a feud within the W.A.K.O. organization led to two versions of the championships being held on the same date – one in London, the other in Budapest. In the 1990s W.A.K.O. held its world championships intermittently with at least one every other year although, in 1993 the organization again had a temporary political dispute which like 1985 meant two championships in one year. List Of WAKO Amateur European Championships
The first W.A.K.O. Amateur European Championships were organized by George Bruckner and held in Vienna in 1977 and between 1977 and 1982 the organization held a European Championships each year. W.A.K.O. began to change the timing of the championships after 1982, making sure that they were every two years, thus (generally) falling between world championships. Igor Jurković (born 15 July 1985) is a Croatian heavyweight kickboxer fighting out of Poreč, Croatia. He was 6 times Croatian national champion 2004, 2005, 2006 in Thai boxing, and kickboxing champion 2005 in full contact, 2005 and 2006 in low kick rules, and also was sparring partner of Mirko Cro Cop. Andrei "White Cat" Kotsur (born 11 September 1982) is a Belarusian Muay Thai welterweight kickboxer fighting out of the Gym "Kick Fighter in Minsk, Belarus where is trained by Evgeni Kotelnikov. He is a four time pro world and three time European (two pro, one amateur) Muay Thai champion. Career/Biography Andrei started his kickboxing career at the Gym "Kick Fighter" in Minsk under the tutelage of Evgeni Kotelnikov in 1999. As a member of the strongest Muay Thai gym in Belarus and possibly Europe, he gained experience from training alongside champions such as Andrei Kulebin, Dmitry Shakuta, Dmitry Valent, Vasily Shish and Aliaksei Pekarchyk.
