W. Hall Harris III
W. Hall Harris III (born 1952) is an American scholar who is the editor of two modern freely-licensed bible translations, the NET Bible and the Lexham English Bible, and was a contributor to the New American Standard Bible 1995 Update. Harris encourages the use of software and web resources for biblical study and teaching. The NET Bible, begun in 1995, was intended as the first freely-available online Bible. NET Bible
The New English Translation (NET Bible) is a free, "completely new" online English translation of the Bible, "with 60,932 translators' notes" sponsored by the Biblical Studies Foundation and published by Biblical Studies Press. History and textual basis The New English Translation, like the New International Version, New Jerusalem Bible and the New American Bible, is a completely new translation of the Bible, not an update or revision of an older one (such as the New Revised Standard Version of 1989, which is a revision of the Revised Standard Version of 1946/71, itself a revision of the American Standard Version of 1901). Lexham English Bible
The Lexham English Bible (LEB) is an online Bible released by Logos Bible Software. The New Testament was published in October 2010 and has an audio narration spoken by Marv Allen. It lists as General Editor W. Hall Harris, III. The Old Testament translation was completed in 2011. According to its foreword, the translator's intent was to achieve: The LEB is relatively literal and was derived from an interlinear translation of the Greek NT. An unusual feature of the LEB is the use of corner brackets to mark idioms in the English translation. Italics are used to indicate words supplied by the translator with no direct equivalent in the underlying Greek. However there are instances where instead of giving a literal translation of a word it gives us its dynamic equivalent. For example in Mark 3:3, the Greek word Ἔγειρε is translated as "come". New American Standard Bible
The New American Standard Bible (NASB) is an English translation of the Bible. Published by the Lockman Foundation, the complete NASB was released in 1971. The NASB relies on recently published critical editions of the original Hebrew and Greek texts. The Lockman Foundation claims that the NASB "has been widely embraced as a literal and accurate English translation because it consistently uses the formal equivalence translation philosophy."
