Værlandet
Værlandet is an island in Askvoll Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The island lies immediately east of the Bulandet island group. The island of Alden lies about northeast of Værlandet. The island lies about west of the mainland coast of Askvoll, and it is only accessible by boat. There is a regular ferry route connecting Værlandet to the mainland village of Askvoll. There is a series of bridges that connect Værlandet to the islands of Bulandet to the west. Værlandet Chapel is located on the island. In 2001, there were about 200 residents on the islands. Askvoll Municipality
is a municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Sunnfjord. The administrative centre is the village of Askvoll. Other villages in the municipality include Holmedal, Kvammen, and Stongfjorden. The most important industries in Askvoll today are ''Helle Knivfabrikk'' (a knife factory), ''Bulandet Fiskeindustri'' (fish industry), and ''Sigurd Løkeland Hermetikkfabrikk'' (a producer of crabs). The municipality is the 255th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Askvoll is the 227th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 2,951. The municipality's population density is and its population has decreased by 2% over the previous 10-year period. Værlandet Chapel
Værlandet Chapel ( no, Værlandet bedehuskapell) is a chapel of the Church of Norway in Askvoll Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located on the island of Værlandet. It is one of three annex chapels in the Askvoll parish which is part of the Sunnfjord prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, brick chapel was built in a long church style in 1960 using plans drawn up by the architect Torgeir Alvsaker. The chapel seats about 170 people. History Planning for a chapel in Værlandet began in the mid-1930s when some fundraising was carried out and a new cemetery was built. The planning was put on hold for quite some time soon after that when World War II broke out. After the war, work began on the new chapel in 1960. The chapel was consecrated on 30 October 1960 by the Bishop Ragnvald Indrebø. In addition to the main sanctuary, there are bathrooms and a cloakroom on the main floor. Bulandet
Bulandet is an archipelago in the sea off the mainland coast of Western Norway. The island group is part of Askvoll Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It sits about west of the mainland coast of Askvoll. The islands of Værlandet and Alden lie immediately east of Bulandet. The Geita Lighthouse lies about southeast of Bulandet. Bulandet is Norway's westernmost fishing village with a fish packing plant that has freezing and cooling systems. Bulandet Chapel is located at Kjempeneset on one of the main islands. The islands are connected to nearby Værlandet island by a series of bridges and roads. There is a regular ferry stop at Værlandet, connecting all of these islands to the mainland village of Askvoll. Alden, Norway
Alden is an island in Askvoll Municipality in Vestland County, Norway. The island lies off the mainland coast of the Sunnfjord region. The island sits a few kilometers west of the mouth of the Dalsfjorden, to the east of the Værlandet islands and about west of the island of Atløyna. The residents of the island live on the southern shore of the island. The only access to the island is by boat. There are no regular ferries that stop at the island. The nearest ferry stop is on Værlandet island, about to the southwest. The ferry at Værlandet travels to the village of Askvoll about to the east. The island is most notable for its tall mountain called ''Norskehesten''. The mountain dominates the island, giving it very steep coastlines. Værlandet LORAN-C Transmitter
Loran-C is a hyperbolic radio navigation system that allows a receiver to determine its position by listening to low frequency radio signals that are transmitted by fixed land-based radio beacons. Loran-C combined two different techniques to provide a signal that was both long-range and highly accurate, features that had been incompatible. Its disadvantage was the expense of the equipment needed to interpret the signals, which meant that Loran-C was used primarily by militaries after it was introduced in 1957. By the 1970s, the cost, weight and size of electronics needed to implement Loran-C had been dramatically reduced because of the introduction of solid-state electronics and, from the mid-1970s, early microcontrollers to process the signal. Askvoll is the administrative centre of Askvoll Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the western coast of the mainland, just north of the mouth of the Dalsfjorden in the Sunnfjord region of the county. The village lies about west of the village of Holmedal and about south of the village of Stongfjorden. The island of Atløyna lies a couple kilometres west of the village of Askvoll. Vestland
Vestland is a county in Norway established on 1 January 2020. The county is located in Western Norway and it is centred around the city of Bergen, Norway's second largest city. The administrative centre of the county is the city of Bergen, where the executive and political leadership is based, but the County Governor is based in Hermansverk. The county is one of two counties in Norway that have Nynorsk as their official written language form (the others are neutral as to which form people use).
