Václav Kadrnka
Václav Kadrnka is a Czech screenwriter and film director. Early life and career Kadrnka was born on 10 September 1973 in Zlín, Gottwaldov, Czechoslovakia (today Zlín, Czech Republic). In 1981, he moved with his family to the United Kingdom, where he studied theatre. In 2010, he made his debut with the film Eighty Letters, which was premiered at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival and received major awards. In 2017, his film ''Little Crusader'', won Grand Prix for best film Crystal Globe at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and Czech Film Critics' Award for Best Director. In 2021, Kadrnka received IFFI Best Director Award for his drama film, Saving One Who Was Dead. Zlín
Zlín (in 1949–1989 Gottwaldov; ; german: Zlin) is a city in the Czech Republic. It has about 73,000 inhabitants. It is the seat of the Zlín Region and it lies on the Dřevnice river. It is known as an industrial centre. The development of the modern city is closely connected to the Bata Shoes company and its social scheme, developed after the World War I. A large part of the city is urbanistically and architecturally valuable and is protected by law as an urban monument zone. 61st Berlin International Film Festival
The 61st annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from 10 to 20 February 2011, with actress Isabella Rossellini as the President of the Jury. The Coen Brothers film ''True Grit'' opened the festival. 300,000 tickets were sold in total during the event, to 20,000 attendees from 116 countries, including 3900 members of the press. German actor Armin Mueller-Stahl received the Honorary Golden Bear for lifetime achievement. Little Crusader
Little Crusader ( cs, Křižáček) is a 2017 Czech historical drama film directed by Václav Kadrnka. It won a Crystal Globe at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The film, shot in Italy, tells the story of the knight Bořek, who is travelling to find his lost son. It is based on the poem ''Svojanovský křižáček'' by Jaroslav Vrchlický. The filming style is reminiscent of movies directed by František Vláčil. The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival ( cs, Mezinárodní filmový festival Karlovy Vary) is a film festival held annually in July in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. The Karlovy Vary Festival is one of the oldest in the world and has become Central and Eastern Europe's leading film event. History The pre-war dream of many enthusiastic filmmakers materialized in 1946 when a non-competition festival of films from seven countries took place in Mariánské Lázně and Karlovy Vary.
