Voralpen-Express
The ''Voralpen-Express'' (''VAE'') is a named train connecting small to medium-sized cities and villages in Central and Eastern Switzerland, carrying this name since 1992. It is operated by Südostbahn (SOB) and runs every hour between St. Gallen and Lucerne, bypassing Zurich. Its name derives from the fact that it traverses the Prealps (German: Voralpen). History The first through trains between Romanshorn (Lake Constance) and Arth-Goldau started in 1940 after the electrification of the Südostbahn line between Rapperswil and Arth-Goldau. Romanshorn–Rapperswil had been under wires since 1926/31. The trains, fir green MUs composed of CFZe 4/4 and BCFZe 4/4 (both later called ABe 4/4) motor coaches and coaches, were jointly operated by Bodensee–Toggenburg-Bahn (BT), Südostbahn (SOB), and the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS). Südostbahn
The Südostbahn (German, literally meaning "South-Eastern Railway") – commonly abbreviated to SOB – is a Swiss adhesion railway company, and a network in Central and Eastern Switzerland. It resulted from the merger of the original SOB with the Bodensee–Toggenburg railway (BT) at the end of 2001. The Schweizerische Südostbahn AG (Swiss South-Eastern Railway SA) is a small private railway jointly owned by the cantonal and federal governments as an Aktiengesellschaft (AG). Rapperswil Railway Station
Rapperswil railway station (german: Bahnhof Rapperswil) is a railway station located next to the old town and harbour of Rapperswil in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen. It is the largest of four active railway stations in the municipality of Rapperswil-Jona (the other three being , and ). Rapperswil railway station is situated on the north shore of Lake Zürich at the northern end of the Seedamm, which separates the ''Obersee'' (upper Lake Zürich) from the main body of the lake. Biberbrugg railway station is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Schwyz and municipality of Feusisberg. It takes its name from the nearby village of Biberbrugg. The station is on the Pfäffikon SZ to Arth-Goldau line, and the Wädenswil to Einsiedeln railway line, which are owned by the Südostbahn. Pfäffikon SZ railway station (german: Bahnhof Pfäffikon SZ) is a junction station serving Pfäffikon, the principal town of the municipality of Freienbach, in the canton of Schwyz (SZ), Switzerland. The station is situated at the northern edge of the town, between the town centre and Lake Zurich. The station forms part of the Lake Zurich left bank railway line, which links Zürich Hauptbahnhof with Ziegelbrücke and Näfels, and is owned and operated by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). Uznach Railway Station
Uznach railway station (german: Bahnhof Uznach) is a railway station situated in the municipality of Uznach in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen. It is located on the Wallisellen–Uster–Rapperswil railway line, at its junction with the Uznach to Wattwil line. The station is served by the inter-regional Voralpen Express, which links Lucerne and St. Gallen via Rapperswil and Wattwil. Luzern Verkehrshaus railway station (german: Bahnhof Luzern Verkehrshaus) is a railway station in the city of Lucerne, in the Swiss canton of Lucerne.
