Voluntary Ambulance (New York City)
In New York City, a voluntary ambulance is an ambulance operated by a hospital that serves New York City's 911 system. Staffed by personnel employed by the hospital, these ambulances respond to 911 calls at the direction of the New York City Fire Department Bureau of EMS (FDNY EMS) dispatch. The 25 hospitals that participate in the system, also known as ''voluntary hospitals'', provide 37% of ambulance tours in the city.
