Volodymyr Yavorivsky
Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Yavorivsky ( uk, Володимир Олександрович Яворівський; 11 October 1942 – 17 April 2021) was a Ukrainian poet, writer, journalist and politician. Biography Born in 1942 in the Crijopol region of Jugastru county (today part of Vinnytsia Oblast), Yavorivsky graduated from the Odessa State University as a specialist on "Ukrainian language and literature". He worked as an editor on the local radio, as a newspaper reporter ("Zaporizka pravda", "Literaturna Ukraina", "Prapor Yunosti"), a scriptwriter on Lviv television, a literary consultant, a referent of the Writer's Union of Ukraine and as the department chief and deputy editor to ''Vitchizna'' Magazine. In the late 1980s, Yavorivsky began his active political career. Ivan Mykhailovych Dziuba ( uk, Іва́н Миха́йлович Дзю́ба; 26 July 1931 – 22 February 2022) was a Ukrainian literary critic, social activist, dissident, Hero of Ukraine, academic of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the second Minister of Culture of Ukraine (1992—1994), and head of the Committee for Shevchenko National Prize (1999–2001). Oleksandr "Oles" Terentiyovych Honchar ( uk, Олесь Терентійович Гончар; 3 April 1918 – 12 December 1995) was a Soviet and Ukrainian writer and public figure. He also was a veteran of World War II and member of the Ukrainian parliament. Biography Early years It has commonly been written that Oles Honchar was born in Sukha '' sloboda'' (now village) in , Poltava Governorate, Russian Empire in family of factory workers Terentiy Sydorovych and Tetiana Havrylivna Bilichenko. However more recently found documents from the regional archives of Dnipropetrovsk Region tell that he was born in a village of Lomivka that just before World War II was incorporated into the city of Dnipropetrovsk. Chernobyl Disaster
The Chernobyl disaster was a nuclear accident that occurred on 26 April 1986 at the No. 4 reactor in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, near the city of Pripyat in the north of the Ukrainian SSR in the Soviet Union. Chernobyl
Chernobyl ( , ; russian: Чернобыль, ) or Chornobyl ( uk, Чорнобиль, ) is a partially abandoned city in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, situated in the Vyshhorod Raion of northern Kyiv Oblast, Ukraine. Chernobyl is about north of Kyiv, and southwest of the Belarusian city of Gomel. Before its evacuation, the city had about 14,000 residents, while around 1,000 people live in the city today. First mentioned as a ducal hunting lodge in 1193, the city has changed hands multiple times over the course of history. Jews moved into the city in the 16th century, and a now-defunct monastery was established in the area in 1626. By the end of the 18th century, Chernobyl was a major centre of Hasidic Judaism under the Twersky Dynasty, who left Chernobyl after the city was subject to pogroms in the early 20th century.
