Volmar (monk)
Volmar (died 1173) was a Saint Disibod monk who acted as prior and father confessor for the nuns at Disibodenberg. He was one of two teachers of Hildegard of Bingen during her early years, the other being Jutta. As a teenager, Hildegard began to realize her visions were unique experiences, and she broke her painful silence by discussing them with Jutta, who told Volmar. Volmar, in turn, became the first person to validate Hildegard's visions. He mentored her and her brother Bruno for a time, and when her self-doubts plagued her, he was the one who urged her to follow the command of God to write down her visions. Volmar recognized Hildegard's rare spiritual talents and later became her secretary and good friend. They knew each other for over sixty years, and when he died in 1173, Hildegard grieved. Volmar Wikström (27 December 1889 – 10 June 1957) was a Finnish wrestler from Pargas, Olympic medalist in freestyle wrestling. Douglas Steven Volmar (January 9, 1945 – June 18, 2017) was an American ice hockey forward who played in 62 games in the National Hockey League with the Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings between 1970 and 1973. He also played briefly for the San Diego Mariners of the World Hockey Association during the 1974–75 season. Before turning professional he played for Michigan State University. King Goldemar (also spelled Goldmar, Vollmar, and Volmar) is a dwarf or kobold from Germanic mythology and folklore. By the Middle Ages, Goldemar had become the king of the dwarfs in German belief.Wägner and MacDowall 40. In the fairy tale "The Friendship of the Dwarfs", the author Villamaria depicts Goldemar as a "mighty dwarf king" with a queen and a court of dwarf nobles at his service.
