Volleyball At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's Tournament
The women's tournament in volleyball at the 2020 Summer Olympics was the 15th edition of the event at an Olympic Games, organised by the world's governing body, the FIVB, in conjunction with the IOC. It was held in Tokyo, Japan from 25 July to 8 August 2021. It was originally scheduled to take place from 26 July to 9 August 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the IOC and the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee announced on 24 March 2020 that the 2020 Summer Olympics would be delayed to 2021. Because of this pandemic, the games were played behind closed doors. The United States won their first gold after finishing runners-up three times with a 3–0 win over Brazil. Serbia won the bronze medal with a victory over South Korea. Ariake Arena
The Ariake Arena is a multi-sport venue located in Ariake, Tokyo, Japan. It served as the volleyball venue for the 2020 Summer Olympics and the wheelchair basketball knockout stage at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. This was the replacement of the Differ Ariake which was closed and demolished in June 2016. History The Ariake Arena was one of the six permanent facilities designed to be built in the district of Ariake in order to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Its construction began in January 2017 and was completed in December 2019. The total cost of the project was around 35 billion yen (about $320 million) and it has the capacity 12,000 spectators, which can be expanded to a max capacity of 15,000 with temporary seating. Gabriela Braga Guimarães, nickname Gabi, (born 19 May 1994) is a Brazilian indoor volleyball player. She plays as an outside spiker. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in the Volleyball at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's tournament, Women's tournament, winning a silver medal. Fernanda Garay Rodrigues (born May 10, 1986) is a retired Brazilian professional volleyball player who won the 2012 Summer Olympics gold medal and the silver medal at 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics with the Brazil national team. She is tall. She plays with Praia Clube. Career Garay is a sergeant and she played at the 2011 Military World Games volleyball tournament, winning the gold medal and the Most Valuable Player and Best Spiker individual awards. Kim Yeon-koung
Kim Yeon-Koung (, ; born 26 February 1988) is a South Korean professional volleyball player and a former member of the FIVB Athletes' Commission. She is an outside hitter and the former captain of the South Korean National Team. She announced her retirement from the national team in August 2021. Kim signed a three-year contract with Fenerbahçe in 2011 after playing for Heungkuk Life in South Korea for four seasons and JT Marvelous in Japan for two seasons. She signed another two-year extension with Fenerbahçe and extended it for another season in 2016. Tijana Bošković ( sr-cyrl, Тијана Бошковић; born 8 March 1997) is a Serbian professional volleyball player who plays as an opposite spiker for Turkish Women's Volleyball League club Eczacıbaşı Dynavit and the Serbia women's national volleyball team. She has won gold medals with the national team at the 2018 and 2022 World Championships, and the 2017 and 2019 European Championships. She is also a two-time Olympic medalist, having won silver at the 2016 Rio Games and bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Games. Tandara Alves Caixeta (born 30 October 1988) is a Brazilian professional volleyball player. She plays for the Brazil women's national volleyball team and for Sesc-Rio in the Brazilian Superliga. She competed for Brazil in the 2012 Summer Olympics, winning a gold medal. She is tall. She is the daughter of Evaldo Caixeta, a former amateur player with Banco do Brasil Athletic Association.
