Volkswagen SP2
The SP2 is a sports car developed by Volkswagen do Brasil for the Brazilian market, and produced from 1972 until 1976. It is based on the Brazilian market Volkswagen 1600 Variant. The abbreviation "SP" is said to have stood for São Paulo or, according to other sources, for Special Project, Sport Prototype, Special Performance or SPort-Car. Origins of the project In the 1970s, the Brazilian market was closed for imports. The only sports car officially made there was the aging (and by then retired) Volkswagen Karmann Ghia, and its successor, the Karmann Ghia TC. Only independent car makers were able to fill the gap, notably Puma, Santa Matilde and Miura. The Volkswagen Passat (B1) is a large family car produced by Volkswagen in West Germany from 1973 to 1981. B1 in Europe The original Volkswagen Passat was launched in 1973. The body types offered originally were two- and four-door fastback sedans (that were discontinued in 1981). These were joined in January 1975 by identically profiled three- and five-door hatchback versions. Externally all four shared a modern design, styled by the Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. In essence, the first Passat was a fastback version of the mechanically identical Audi 80 sedan, introduced a year earlier. While the Audi 80 was nominated Car of the Year by the European motor press in 1973, they considered the Passat a facelifted version of the Audi and thus ineligible for the 1974 competition. Volkswagen Scirocco
The Volkswagen Scirocco is a three-door, front-engine, front-wheel-drive, sport compact hatchback manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen in two generations from 1974 to 1992 and a third generation from 2008 until 2017. Production ended without a successor. The Scirocco derives its name from the Mediterranean wind. First generation (1974) Volkswagen began work on the car during the early 1970s as the replacement for the aging Karmann Ghia coupe, and designated it the ''Typ 53'' internally. The Volkswagen Group A platform is an automobile platform shared among compact and mid-size cars of the Volkswagen Group. It debuted in 1974 and was originally based on the engineering concept of the Volkswagen Golf Mk1, and is applicable to either front- or four-wheel drive vehicles, using only front-mounted transverse engines. Volkswagens based on this platform have been colloquially referred to by generation number, e.g. the first Golf version is referred to as an "A1 Golf". Often each generation is designated by substituting "Mark" for "A", but this can be misleading. For example, the Mk1 and Mk2 Scirocco are both based on the A1 platform.
