Vlad Ioviță
Vlad Ioviţă (December 25, 1935, Cocieri, USSR - June 23, 1983, Chişinău, Moldavian SSR) was a film director from Moldova also known as a writer and publicist. Biography Vlad Ioviţă was born on December 25, 1935, in Cocieri. He received his training at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet (1954), and then followed the High Courses for Scriptwriters and Film Directors (1962-1964), then worked for Moldova-Film. Also, Vlad Ioviţă fulfilled the function of secretary of the Union of Filmmakers of Moldova (1981-1983). He was awarded the State Prize and the honorary title of Merited Artist (1982). He died on June 23, 1983, in Chisinau municipality, being buried in his native village. Cocieri
Cocieri is a commune in the Republic of Moldova, and the administrative center of Dubăsari District. It is located on the eastern bank of the Dniester River, consisting of two villages, ''Cocieri'' and ''Vasilievca''. During 1992 War of Transnistria inhabitants of this village rebelled against the separatist authorities of Transnistria. The military unit of the 14th former Soviet Army which was located in the village was attacked by local inhabitants who armed themselves and opposed the forces of Transnistria. As result, after the war, Cocieri remained in the area controlled by the Republic of Moldova. Population According to the 2014 Moldovan Census, the commune had a population of 3,885, mostly residing in Cocieri. 3,717 of these were ethnic Moldovans and 168 from other ethnic groups. Mihai Volontir
Mihai Volontir (9 March 1934 – 15 September 2015) was a Soviet and Moldovan actor. People's Artist of the USSR (1984). Biography Volontir was born on 9 March 1934 in the village of Glinjeni, Moldova. He attended the Pedagogical Institution in Orhei from 1952 to 1955. After over a decade of working in theatre, Volontir began appearing in films made at the Moldova-Film studio in 1967. He became famous in the late 1970s after his roles in ''In the Zone of Special Attention'' and ''The Gypsy'' film series. The films were so popular that he is still strongly associated with his character, Budulai, a wise lone gypsy. His performance resulted in increased tolerance towards gypsy communities in the Soviet Union. The film series was revived fifteen years later with a new production as well as a TV series. Nicolae Esinencu
Nicolae Esinencu (13 August 1940 – 25 April 2016) was a Moldovan poet, screenwriter and writer. He was born in Chiţcani, in the Teleneşti district of Moldova, which was then part of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic. Esinencu attended the Maxim Gorky Literature Institute in Moscow between 1971 and 1975, then his first writing credit was for co-writing the screenplay for Vlad Ioviță's 1975 film ''Calul, pușca și nevasta''. The two then collaborated on other projects. In 2010, friends organised a celebration for his seventieth birthday and true to his reputation as a "terrible child" he did not turn up. He was a member of the Moldovan Writers' Union and the Writers' Union of Romania. He died on April 25, 2016.
